Why do so many atheists believe they are not atheists?

Because once they admit to Atheism their pro-evolution / anti-Bible
views lose all objective value. There is one and only one refutation
of Darwinism that Darwinists cannot refute: the identification or
outing of Atheism, which makes the pro-evolution / anti-Bible view
predictable and predetermined. This is why most Atheists claim to be
Christians or Agnostics. Of course their pro-evolution / anti-Bible
views ties them to be Atheists regardless of how they dress or label
themselves. They would rather sacrifice an appearance of being a liar
then admit to being an Atheist because, like I said, once Atheism is
admitted pro-evolution / anti-Bible views are predictable and
predetermined every step of the way.
Historically, Atheism always meant 'liar' because they had no fear of
God.

Great answer, Ray! But this is what most amazes -- and disappoints
-- me about modern-day Christianity: Why do "free ride" Christians
believe they can get away with murder? Where did these free riders
get that cockamamie idea, out of a box of Cracker Jacks? Maybe the
bible they're reading from looks like one of those files that have
been "classified for national security reasons", you see 'em where
the U.S. Government used black magic markers to hide 99% of a UFO
report, incriminating evidence, and "top-secret" things like that.
But last I looked the bible is anything but a classified document
(albeit their dumbed-down English "translations" do read that way).

I mean, we know the self-proclaimed Atheists devoutly believe that
there is no God, or Gods. Thus they believe there is no such thing
as a soul, spirit, heaven, hell, afterlife, beforelife, sin, karma,
anything supernatural, or other worldly, to put it mildly. Without
going into a diatribe, I believe the most rational explanation for
why Atheists can't see the Light, is because they can't see their
own ego-selves objectively. Atheists are purely, only, subjective.
And "free ride" Christians suffer from exactly the same incurable
blindness to the Light, and for the same reasons, being completely
immersed in--preoccupied with--their subjective mortal human egos.

It's a known fact that the Immortal souls of mortal Atheists burn
in Hellfire for a long time after they die. But these "free ride"
Christians believe that they are somehow different from Atheists,
and so they believe that, as they say "Because Jesus died for my
sins", end quote, they're no more liable for all their lifetimes
of violations of God's Universal Law (the Ten Commandments & Two
Great Commandments), than the self-described Atheists are liable.

It's the one thing that unites both the Atheists and "free ride"
Christians (Christian Atheists--no oxymoron implied) altogether,
and that is their shared belief that the Universe will not hold
them accountable for their transgressions against the Holy Ghost,
not in this life, and not in an afterlife. They all believe that.

This is why I believe that the souls of "free ride" Christians
are doomed to lift their eyes up in excruciating torments when
they die, in the same outer darkness as the hideously tormented
souls of dead Atheists--all that "weeping and gnashing of teeth",
the whole nine yards. It's when the "free ride" Christians find
out they had lived their lives as the Atheists did, without God.

Having lived afar off from the Light in their lifetimes, so too
they remain afar off from the Light in death, in outer darkness,
each a prisoner of his own device in great fear of the Light in
which to see the Just and the future Judgment awaiting them to
cross over (i.e. the impassible abyss) into the fatherly Light.
But that's just my humble opinion, to quote a song from 'Monk':

"I could be wrong now, but I don't think so!"
