NASA to Unveil Plans to Send 4 Astronauts to Moon in 2018

WASHINGTON - NASA briefed senior White House officials Wednesday on its
plan to spend $100 billion and the next 12 years building the spacecraft
and rockets it needs to put humans back on the Moon by 2018.
The U.S. space agency now expects to roll out its lunar exploration plan
to key Congressional committees on Friday and to the broader public
through a news conference on Monday, Washington sources tell SPACE.com.

Seeing that humans have *never* been to the Moon in the
first place, therefore the above article is invalidated
by default. By the time 2018 rolls around, NASA will be
claiming that "in the year 2031" blah blah ad nauseam.
It's all just the usual NASA propaganda to keep funding
rolling in, as the Moon is clearly out of reach, to wit:
ALTITUDE COMPARISON CHART
SHUTTLE VS. MOON & MANMADE SATELLITES
(not to scale)
x------Moon's mean geocentric distance ~239,000 miles---x

~ ~214,000 MILES ~
~ ^^^ ^^^ ^^^^^ ~

x------High-altitude orbit ~25,000+ miles altitude------x

x------Geostationary orbit ~22,300 miles altitude-------x

~ ~10,000 MILES ~
~ ~

x------Mid-altitude orbit ~12,500 miles altitude--------x

~ ~10,000 MILES ~
~ ~

x------Low-altitude orbit below ~1200 miles altitude----x
x------JPL/NASA Space Shuttle orbit ~300 miles altitude-x
x------Intl. Space Station orbit ~220 miles altitude |
x------Earth's sea level -0- miles altitude-------------x
To give you an idea of the scale involved, if each hard line
break in the chart below equals roughly 10,000 miles, to wit:
x------Moon's mean geocentric distance ~239,000 miles---x
230,000
220,000
210,000
200,000
190,000
180,000
170,000
160,000
150,000
140,000
130,000
120,000
110,000
100,000
90,000
80,000
70,000
60,000
50,000
40,000
30,000
x------Geostationary orbit ~22,300 miles altitude-------x
x------Mid-altitude orbit ~12,500 miles altitude--------x
x------Low-altitude orbit below ~1200 miles altitude----x
Then the low-earth shuttle orbit would fit somewhere between
the center and baseline of the bottom 'x'--hardly visible at
all at this scale. And yet, that is the highest altitude any
manned flight has ever successfully sustained for any length
of time. But the "men to the moon" fairytale devotees don't
want to face up to these and other glaring facts in evidence:

Anyone who thinks that Apollo 11 never handed on the Moon doesn't have the

I've got a strange feeling that any 'off Earth' exploration by NASA, has been put on hold by
the Bush Administration right about now (atleast for now anyway).
Too many Wars to fight, too many Cities to Rebuild.
Just My Thoughts.

A tale of two cities to rebuild, Baghdad and New Orleans.

You may have had to. It was just cheaper. The levees may have been

You're very probably right, Other Guy. Gee Dubya will make a
public pronouncement claiming this as a national goal, so that
he can get votes with his JFK impression. He'll give such a small
budget to it that the program will never start. He'll be out of
office when it fails. A Republican Congress may not even
appropriate the little sums that Dubya will ask for. In the end,
NASA will have to fake a moon trip to save face, just as they did
three decades ago.
