Belgian Police Arrest Al Qaeda Suspects

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Belgian police said they had made two arrests at Brussels'
main airport on Saturday, with local television saying the suspects were
Sudanese members of Osama bin Laden's Al Qaeda movement.
"There have been two arrests in Zaventem (airport) this morning," federal
police spokesman Jan van Ransbeeck said.
VTM, Belgium's main commercial Dutch-language television channel, said the
arrested men were Sudanese Al Qaeda members, and had arrived in Brussels from
Athens on false passports.
"I don't know about their nationality or any supposed terrorist ties," van
Ransbeeck said.
A separate security source told Reuters that Belgian authorities would not
comment further as police operations were continuing and there was the
possibility of further arrests.
VTM, quoting no sources, said the police found photographs of militants
involved in suicide operations in the suspects' luggage and a mobile phone
number referring to bin Laden.
Earlier on Saturday the Netherlands said it was increasing security at key
locations after receiving information that radical Islamists might be planning
terror attacks.
Belgium seized 15 suspected Islamist militants last month as part of
pan-European raids following the Madrid train bombings which killed 191 people
in March.
