Blair's awesome. If the Democrats could run him for president of America I'd switch parties in a
heartbeat. Lots of courage.

You mean a half-baked knee-jerk reactive cypher with a bizarre messiah
complex is something heroic? He's getting roundly panned in the UK by all
parties and especially the judiciary over his latest nonsensical,
undemocratic nonsense, and quite right too. THe man is quite obviously on

Yes, she's a first-class human rights lawyer. I got her last name mixed up
with the infamous actor John Wilkes Booth, who is in her family genealogy,
and I kept thinking she had acted at one time. She hasn't. Her father was
an actor who married an actress.
I think Tony Blair, when compared to Bush's stilted oratory style, comes
off as rather flashy in contrast. Certainly, he can put one word after
another with relative ease, leaving poor dyslexic W in the dust.
Cherie has been sharply critical of the Bush administration and/or the USA
generally on a number of occasions. It appears that her outspokenness
prompted conservatives to dig up some dirt on her. She created a scandal
with her alleged affair with an Australian con man, and also a female
model. (see below)
In 2002, Booth hit the newspaper headlines in the scandal referred to as
"Cheriegate" because of her involvement with Peter Foster, a convicted
Australian conman, who assisted her with the purchase of two flats in
Bristol. Booth tried to distance herself from Foster and briefed the press
office at Number 10 to go public with a statement claiming that Foster was
not involved with the deal. She was caught out when Foster provided
evidence that she had lied. She went public herself, tearfully reading a
prepared statement blaming her "misfortune" on the pressures of running a
family and being a mother. . Her relationship with the so-called "style
guru" and former model Carole Caplin has given rise to headlines in some
newspapers. Carole Caplin, a former member of Exegesis and alleged New
Ager, became the life coach of Cherie Blair (wife of Tony Blair). ...
Americans hear little about his wife these days. I've never heard Tony's
guitar work. Saw a pic with him and Bush in an English pub strumming a
guitar, but, of course, we also saw Schwarzenegger "playing" a guitar --
later, it was learned he was playing it with one broken string!
hehehee...politicians...

It is the job of leaders to make proposals, and THEN consult with the

trying to impeach him.

Since Clinton's day? Which proposals were those then? Tony has more faces
than a 1d20....

I like that Blair teamed up with President Clinton (another man of the
left) to fight evil in this world. I like that Blair backed Clinton's
attempt to attain a peace accord between the Palestinians and Israel. I
like that Blair continued to push for that peace after Bush took
office. I like Blair's optimism. And I like his determination, which he
most recently expressed with his new proposals.

Thank God he has
the right stuff to make those proposals.

Like Hitler did?

No, like what Hitler and the Mufti did. First of all, as you should
know, the British government is asking moderate Muslim clerics to speak
up and voice disapproval of Muslim extremists -- extremists such as
Omar Bakri Mohammed, who has been living in the UK for 20 years,
collecting government benefits to support his family, and all the while
preaching hatred for the country that has welcomed him after he was
exiled from Saudi Arabia. I see nothing wrong with asking someone like
him to leave.
For example, how would you feel if you invited a man into your home,
gave him a place to stay, fed him, supported him, and then overheard
him tell someone you're a bad man, and he wouldn't mind seeing some
tragedy befall you; and if he knew someone was about to attack you, he
wouldn't lift a finger to call the police to come protect you ... would
you continue to welcome him, or would you ask him to leave?

From the Washington Post:

By Kevin Sullivan
Thursday, August 11, 2005
[excerpt] Inayat Bunglawala, a spokesman for the moderate Muslim
Council of Britain, said in an interview that "Omar Bakri has spent 20
years vilifying this country and its values and what it stands for and
all the while he has been quite content to live on state benefits. He
has no appreciation for the assistance that's been given him."
Bunglawala said the media had seized on Bakri's more controversial
statements, including that he would not report fellow Muslims planning
an attack on Britain. He called that a "ridiculous" interpretation of
Islam that is not shared by the vast majority of British Muslims. But
he said Bakri had received so much media attention that he had "created
a very skewed view of what our community stands for." [end excerpt]

It is the job of leaders to make proposals, and THEN consult with the
legislative branch to get those proposals discussed and enacted.

In the US, perhaps. In the UK it's the job of the party to suggest them, and
Blair didn't consult his party, he just started blurting out this nonsense
to appease the rabid tabloids. As someone once said "A strong conviction
that something needs to be done is the parent of many bad measures".

I'm not surprised there is political opposition to his proposals. If Bush
had made those proposals over here, the Democratic appeasers would be
trying to impeach him.

For what? The fact of the matter is laws already EXIST banning people from
inciting religious hatred, ordering someone else's death etc etc - all of
which could be used against these preachers
<snip>

Thank God he has
the right stuff to make those proposals.

Like Hitler did?

No, like what Hitler and the Mufti did.

Strange that you keep mentioning the Mufti when you arguet it is perfectly
acceptable to support baby rapin' woman torturin' Saddam because to do so
was in America's interest because he could be used against a greater threat.
That line of thinking exonerates the mufti completely, given what happened
to Palestine post WWII.

First of all, as you should know, the British government is asking

moderate Muslim clerics to speak

up and voice disapproval of Muslim extremists

Ironically, the moderate muslim clerics at the mosque one of the London
bombers attended HAD spoklen up several times about him and his militant
friends, saying they were trying to turn their mosque into another Finsbury
Park. They even went so far as to inform the police, like the good citizens
they are - they were ignored andthe rest i shistory. THis fact is often
swept under the table when the subject of "moderate muslims speaking out" is
brought up.

-- extremists such as
Omar Bakri Mohammed, who has been living in the UK for 20 years,
collecting government benefits to support his family, and all the while
preaching hatred for the country that has welcomed him after he was
exiled from Saudi Arabia. I see nothing wrong with asking someone like
him to leave.

If he has broken any laws, he will be deported, I'm sure.

Oh he's an ungrateful, cowardly *****, for sure, and in the above scenario I
wouldl most certainly kick him out of my *house*. However, on a national
level, I (like the admirable framers of the US constitution) belive that
free speech is worth the price of occasionally hearing something you don't
like the sound of. As you quote below, the moderate muslims can see right
through him and are willing to condemn him, so let him stay and be exposed
for what he is.

What an obvious product of tutoring, focus groups and other PR babble, more
like. especially his new affected glottle stop which he has been told will
make him appeal more to the Mirror reading masses by some fuckstick
"consultant".

Not Churchill, mind you,

No, a long, long fucking way from Churchill seeing as he couldn't possibly
make a speech without fifteen writers ten wardrobe assistants and a few
grand's worth of makeup. Churchill's off the cuff comments when drunk are
better formed than anything that has spilled out of St Tony's mouth in the
last 10 years. At least Churchill had a personality and was genuinely
amusing even if he was the first man in history to use poison gas on the
Kurds (which apparently is why we had to slaughter tens of thousands of
Iraqis this last couple of years)

but about the
best I've seen lately.

You should get out more. "Gorgeous" George Galloway beats him by a country
mile as a speechmaker, even if most of what he says is rubbish. Hell,
Chemical Ali had better (and possibly more truthful) rhetoric.

Indeed, supplied to him by the US, along with the chemicals and spraying

http://www.cbc.ca/fifth/kurds/alliance.html
"Richard Murphy, a top State Department official (Assistant Secretary of
State for the Near East Bureau) remembers that the pressure to sell was
enormous.
"Certainly there was pressure to sell and there was the argument, if the
contract doesn’t go to an American you can be darn sure it’s gonna go to a
German, British, French manufacturer and trucks were one example. Civilian
helicopters were a dicier decision. Could they be turned into the equivalent
of an attack helicopter?"
Despite opposition from the Pentagon, the U.S. approved the sale of 100
helicopters to the Iraqis who claimed they would be used as agricultural
sprayers. Dr. Bryen says many were transferred to the military, perhaps to
be used in chemical attacks.
"You know, we don’t like that, that’s a very dangerous thing, and of course
Halabja is a perfect example of what you do with helicopters filled with
chemicals." "
