The subject of this Bill Moyers special will be a surprise to no one.
The poor performance of the owned press in the run up to the war is no
surprise to anyone. But we have one of the most respected journalists
in America examining the lying monkey and an institution that is
supposed to bring pressure to bear on warmongers and thieves.
So if you have access to PBS make plans, buy some popcorn and make
sure you have your kids there to watch also.
Record of Iraq War Lies to Air April 25 on PBS

Bill Moyers has put together an amazing 90-minute video
documenting the lies that the Bush administration told to sell the
Iraq war to the American public, with a special focus on how the media
led the charge. I've watched an advance copy and read a transcript,
and the most important thing I can say about it is: Watch PBS from
9:00 to 10:30 PM on Wednesday, April 25. Spending that 90 minutes will
actually save you time because you'll never watch television news
again - not even on PBS, which comes in for its own share of
criticism.
While a great many pundits, not to mention presidents, look
remarkably stupid or dishonest in the four-year-old clips included in
"Buying the War," it's hard to take any spiteful pleasure in holding
them to account, and not just because the killing and dying they
facilitated is ongoing, but also because of what this video reveals
about the mindset of members of the DC media. Moyers interviews media
personalities, including Dan Rather, who clearly both understand what
the media did wrong and are unable to really see it as having been
wrong or avoidable.

I'll mark that on my calendar!
I want to hear Stevie's reaction to it, after it's over.
And Jean's, too!
I don't have to watch it, really, to know I've been generously lied to for
years. Had all the lying resulted in no one killed or hurt, I'd say it was
just more of the usual political-corporate theater of the absurd. It's
not, of course.
The pathetic position America has reached is that it can't do what is
necessary to remove Bush and Cheney from power, but is spending an
incredible amount of time and energy condemning and ridiculing it.
It's like a huge entertainment industry has risen up around Bush and his
cabinet, and we're becoming so comfortable with cynicism and satire, that
it seems we just don't want to see it end.
I mean, would any Prez and his cabinet be as good a source for jokes and
shocks as this one? I doubt it. It'd take a very long time to see another
administration as screwed up as this one.

I only agree with you partly here doc. The new Congress is doing
what it is supposed to do, that is, investigating and overseeing
the Executive branch of government. The problem is that this
administration has become very, very good at hiding and eliminating
all evidence which might incriminate it. It has become a mode of
operation to hide everything they do, even when it is normal and
legal. Literally the entire culture of this white house is
subterfuge. John Dean, formerly on the Nixon staff, said as much
in comparing the Nixon administration to that of the shrub, and
he made it clear that the Bush administration is the most
secretive in US history. You can look up some of Dean's books,
'Imperial Presidency', and 'Conservatives without Conscience'.
Ridiculing and condemning this administration really means
nothing unless we catch them in criminal mischief. They can
be as incompetent as they like, but unless there is a smoking
gun, or unless the benefit of removing them far outweighs the
cost of keeping them here, nothing is going to happen.
It's like a huge entertainment industry has risen up around Bush and his

Add to the list of heroes Kennedy, Walcott, Landay, Hanley, Strobel.
Wouldn't we be a better society if our leadership would tell the truth? But
truth seems to be a liability to a higher agenda.
Those poor bastards at the top. Thinking it all was going to go so well.
Greeted as liberators etc. Blind ideologues thinking they could shape the
future the way they shaped their lies, their sales pitches.
Now, if we're lucky, the full truth will come out, we'll learn our lessons,
and Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, etc. will go down in history as the greatest
loosers that ever held high office in America.

You know what else is "spookily similar" Chris? Steven and Tony.
I know obviously that they aren't the same person, so I won't even
venture down that avenue. But man, some of the things that Steven
says, and certain ways he acts and responses he gives to other posters
here is so Tony-ish. Can't quite put my finger on it but these two
sound like they went to the same school.
Oh, and I'd just like to add that I'm really not into the ganging up
on one particular poster thing, as is the case here with Steven now
(he's got, I think, about 5 to 7 different people against him right
now at any given moment on this group), unless I feel he/she really
deserves it (as was the case with Tony - now he most certainly
deserved everything he got.. and then some). So I'll reserve my
comments about/to Steven just for moments that I feel are appropriate
and/or justified.
You know me, Chris - you know I have a big heart.
I'm wondering if Steven would extend me the same courtesy, though? And
if the situation was reversed, and we had a bunch of Steven's against,
say, only *one* Woods, or *one* John, or one Randy, or one Chris etc..
would there be any mercy? Or just full frontal, unabashed attacks?
Dunno. And this is why I'm trying to stay on the side-lines as much
as humanly possible and reserve anything I may have to add about
Steven to an extreme minimum.
But in this instance, I must say that there is *such* a similarity
between Steven and Tony. It's almost as if Tony broke into Steven's
house, knocked him out and assumed his identity. LOL!
Do you see the similarity, Chris?

You mean like they're both ignoramuses who go through their
life with blinders on ? You bet they're the same.

I wouldn't belong to such a group. I'd be bored within minutes.

I want to hear Stevie's reaction to it, after it's over.
All Stevie's ever going to do is rant, rave and rail against reality.
No, I'm going to continue to point out all the people who believed
Saddam was a threat. That IS reality. It is you who wants to make it
all about Bush and no one else.
That's all he's ever done. He's already made a complete ***** of
himself with his demented rationalizations. He such a compleat
ideologue that he's blind to this.
What is so ironic is that I'm the moderate, while you're the fringe
leftist kook. Do you realize one in four Democrats support Bush on the
war? How many people is that? And Bush has a 36% overall approval
rating, of which I am NOT a part (and haven't been for a long time).
Yet you try to paint me as the extremist, when it is you. Really
incredible.
When he finally runs out of corner to back into he'll explain to us
how we're freedom haters, America haters and then disappear into
another identity somewhere.
No, I'll continue to post as myself. I don't play that multiple
identities game. When you see a post on usenet, you know it's from me.
And if I ever stop posting, you'll know that too. But don't expect
that to happen any time soon, Johnnie.
Spoken like a true WorldNutDaily zombie,
Have I ever cited WND as a source? No. So why are you trying to
connect me with something I never read or use as a source? How
dishonest of you. But then I've grown accustomed to your dishonesty.
No. But you are a NUT. And maybe you should quote WorldNUTDaily, or
write for them...
Why? The only time I ever hear of WND is on this group, by other
posters. I have nothing to do with WND.
it's clear you're one of the peas in that pod....
What does that mean? That you think I have something to do with WND
when I don't?
Nobody suggests you have anything to do with it you fuckin' gobshite.
You sound like it. Go read the fuckin' thing and compare the nonsense
there to the nonsense you post here. Very very similar. Spookily
similar!
I didn't think anyone else would notice that! I should have known you'd
have picked up on that, Dani!
Woods
Oh, and I'd just like to add that I'm really not into the ganging up on
one particular poster thing, as is the case here with Steven now (he's
got, I think, about 5 to 7 different people against him right now at any
given moment on this group), unless I feel he/she really deserves it (as
was the case with Tony - now he most certainly deserved everything he
got.. and then some). So I'll reserve my comments about/to Steven just
for moments that I feel are appropriate and/or justified.
