No Oscar nod for Cayce film
DVD release in December
By MICHELE CARLTON

HOPKINSVILLE -- A film about famed clairvoyant Edgar Cayce will not be
among the films competing for best documentary at the Academy Awards.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences released a list of 12
contenders Tuesday, and the hour-long documentary "Edgar Cayce -- The
Beautiful Dreamer" was not selected.
"We would have loved to have been considered," said Cayce film director
Darrah Meeley, in a phone interview Thursday from her Franklin, Tenn.,
home.
"It would have been nice, but the film has taken on a life of its own.
It's finding its audience. It's getting rave reviews everywhere. It's
going to put Hopkinsville on the map."
The fast-food indictment "Super Size Me" is among 12 films competing for
best documentary at the Academy Awards. The awards will be presented on
Feb. 27, 2005.
Other selected documentaries include "Tupac: Resurrection," an
examination of the life of slain rapper Tupac Shakur; the surfing
chronicle "Riding Giants," the first documentary ever to open the
Sundance Film Festival; and "Born Into Brothels," a look at the harsh
lives of children of Calcutta prostitutes.
The Cayce film traces Cayce's life from his birth near Hopkinsville in
1877 to his death in Virginia Beach, Va., in 1945.
Cayce is credited with more than 14,000 medical diagnoses and readings
while under hypnosis. He is known worldwide as the "Sleeping Prophet."
Much of the Cayce documentary was filmed in Hopkinsville in 2001 and
2002.
Other portions of the film were shot in Nashville, Tenn., Los Angeles
and Virginia Beach.
The Cayce film features several actors from Hopkinsville's Southern
Kentucky Independent Theatre. For the film, Meeley also interviewed
Christian County Historian William T. Turner and Cayce's relatives, D.D.
Cayce and Edgar Evans Cayce.
Local actor Joseph Scott, who portrayed Cayce in the documentary, was
disappointed in the Academy's decision.
"They just didn't know what they had," he said. "It seemed to have a
real good chance, but we'll just have to go to the next step."
In mid-December, the Cayce film will be available on DVD and VHS video
at the Pennyroyal Area Museum for $24.95. Orders are currently being
accepted at the museum by calling 887-4270.
"We'll let people judge for themselves," Scott said. Rather than vie for
the Oscar, "we may get the people's choice award instead."
To launch the video sales, Meeley and Scott plan to autograph copies of
the film at The Bodhi Tree bookstore in West Hollywood, Calif., on Dec.
16.
"It is a fantastic film," Meeley said. "This film brings out the lovely
Christian family man that Mr. Cayce was and not the mystical freak
people have made him out to be. Only good has come out of this film. It
has been an honor to do this."
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Did they pull the info? I don't see anything there on it.
(BTW - I'd have been shocked if a bio on Cayce got a nomination, regardless of
how well made.)

No, I meant as far as contacting them to order the DVD because the
article gave a phone number w/o the area code. You can also email them
for info from the link.

Oh well....like they said, there is always a chance for the people's
choice awards. ;)
I'm looking forward to seeing it. I hope I'm not disappointed.

You're looking for the EC textual notes on the city of Su Zanadu
rising from the ocean amongst the recipes of sizzling mean skillet
cornbreads of the ancients talked about in trance-like statements from
the grandma's and grandpa's on the in EC past-life couch experiments -
yep I know what you're looking for these in this film. :-)

Did you order it? Let me know how it is. I know someone who knew Cayce, and
might be interested if it's halfway decent.
