-----------------------------------------------------------------
GAUHATI, India - Suspected rebels woke up sleeping villagers in northeastern
India and fired on them with automatic weapons early Monday, killing six and
raising the death toll to 63 from three days of violence in a region where
dozens of ethnic rebel groups are fighting for separate homelands.
Seven people also were wounded when the group of heavily armed militants
descended on Gelapukhuri, a village 130 miles north of Gauhati, the capital of
Assam state, said police officer P. Baruah, who was reached from the region by
telephone. Six of the villagers died, he said.
Baruah blamed the National Democratic Front of Boroland, or NDFB, for the
attack, the latest in a spasm of violence that claimed 57 lives on Saturday and
Sunday, when suspected rebels bombed utilities, a tea plantation and a crowded
marketplace.
Meanwhile, shops and schools were closed and most traffic halted in parts of
Assam state on Monday during a dawn-to-dusk strike called by a students' group
to protest the killings, said A. K. Bhutani, the district magistrate of
Kokrajhar, which was hit by several bomb and gunfire attacks over the weekend.
The All Bodo Students' Union, a tribal student group, called for the general
strike in seven of the state's 27 districts where it commands support.
The group had helped broker a peace accord between the federal government and an
insurgent group, the Bodo Liberation Tigers, in western Assam in 2003.
At least 18 bombings and shootings were carried out in Nagaland and Assam states
since Saturday. The attacks — particularly an explosion Saturday that ripped
through a railway station full of commuters — angered some separatist leaders.
A leader of one separatist group, the United Liberation Front of Asom, or ULFA,
has been quoted as taking responsibility for some of the attacks.
No arrests have been made, police said.
Assam's top police official has blamed all of the attacks on the two militant
groups. "The entire string of attacks was a joint operation by the ULFA and the
NDFB," Inspector-General Khagen Sarma told The Associated Press.
On Sunday, the elusive commander in chief of the outlawed ULFA, Paresh Barua,
claimed responsibility for four of the attacks in Assam state, where the group
has been fighting for a separate homeland since 1979 in an insurgency that has
left more than 10,000 dead in the past decade.
"This is our answer to Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi's cease-fire call," the
English-language newspaper The Sentinel quoted Barua as saying.
Government officials last week offered a cease-fire to both militant groups, and
asked for a response before Oct. 15.
Sunday was the 18th anniversary of the founding of the NDFB, which is demanding
a homeland for Boroland, a region that straddles Nagaland and Assam states.
Nearly 40 separatist groups have been fighting in the mountainous region of
multiple ethnicities wedged between Bangladesh, Bhutan and Myanmar.
Rebels in Nagaland have been leading one of Asia's longest running separatist
conflicts, dating to shortly before India gained independence from Britain in
1947. Some 15,000 people have been killed in the fighting.
But one Naga separatist group engaged in talks with the government denounced the
attacks, and said it was launching its own investigation into the violence.
Kraibo Chawang, of the separatist National Socialist Council of Nagaland, told
the AP that the assaults were "aimed at derailing and sabotaging our peace talks
with the Indian government."
Nagaland's death toll stood at 28, while Assam's rose Monday to 35.

At least 30 killed in Nagaland blast
G Vinayak in Guwahati | October 02, 2004 14:04 IST
Last Updated: October 02, 2004 16:41 IST
The death toll in three simultaneous (not two as initial reports suggested) in
Nagaland's commercial capital Dimapur this morning has risen to 30 and is likely
to rise further, officials said.
Fifty others have been injured.
Officials said 15 were killed at the Railway station, 10 in Hong Kong market and
5 others succumbed to their injuries in Civil hospital.
The bomb was reportedly planted in the station manager's room. "It was a
powerful blast, the tin roof of the railway platform has been blown," railway
official Robin Kalita said.
Shell shocked Dimapur went on a spontaneous bandh after the blasts.
Meanwhile, state Chief Minister N Rio and DGP have rushed to the spot.
All trains on the main trunk route between Guwahati and Dibrugarh passing
through Dimapur have been suspended.
A high-level team of NF railway officials has already reached Dimpaur. This is
the second blast at the Dimpaur railway station in decade. The last blast had
killed over 15 people in 1994.
Injured have been admitted to Dimapur Civil Hospital and various nursing homes.
Police sources informed that the impact of the blast was so severe that the
entire portion of the ticket counter and platform in Dimapur railway station was
damaged beyond recognition. People with mutilated limbs were seen running helter
and skelter shouting for help.
Senior police officials and district administration of Dimapur who are clueless
about the blast have launched a massive manhunt.
The Hong Kong market that sells mainly Chinese goods was open despite a holiday
for Gandhi Jayanti.
The blasts in Christian-majority Nagaland could have been set off by any of
several smaller separatist groups that are not part of the truce with the Indian
government, officials said.
The biggest group, the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isaac-Muivah),
which has fought for a separate Naga nation for more than half a century, has
held several rounds of talks with government officials but with no breakthrough.
Meanwhile, one person was killed and more than others were injured in a grenade
blast in Assam's Chirang district this morning.

Doesn't matter. Terrorism is the weapon of the poor or the insane,
like Tim McVeigh. Usually allies of Christians and Jews are backed by
money and superior protection, except in or near Sudan and elsewhere

THE CHALLENGE
I will reproduce this challenge which you have run
away from for the last two years:
EITHER:
1) Provide a post where I make an anti-semitic statement (I nominate
Woodswun and Katherine Wolf to be judges of whether it is anti-semitic
or not, if they agree)
OR
2) Apologise for you disgusting "anti-semite" smear
...and I will leave alt.prophecies.nostradamus for ever
Your constant failure to accept this challenge shows you don't even
believe the anti-semite smear yourself, and that you are too cowardly and

No, I wouldn't - it's anti-fundie. You can be pro-christian, and still be
anti-fundie-christian. In fact, I know quite a few regular churchgoers who
are in that category. I don't know anybody who can stand fundies of any
religion.
The first part is the main interest in the discussion.
That may be *your* main interest, but that's not what the threat started
off with, and I do think it's important to realize that fundamentalism is a
threat to freedoms and liberty if such groups are permitted excessive
influence over the government.

Here is your favorite, encyclopedia.
http://www.encyclopedia.com/html/N/Nagaland.asp
Nagaland
Related: Indian Geography
(nä´geland) , state (2001 provisional pop. 1,988,686), 6,365 sq mi (16,485 sq
km), NE India. It is a wild, forested, and undeveloped region bounded by Myanmar
on the east and the Indian states of Manipur on the south, Assam on the
northwest, and Arunachal Pradesh on the north. The region is inhabited by Nagas,
a Tibeto-Burman tribe, who formerly practiced head-hunting. More than 80% of the
population is Christian. The state is governed by a chief minister and cabinet
responsible to a bicameral legislature with one elected house and by a governor
appointed by the president of India. Formerly called the Naga Hills-Tuensang
area in Assam state, Nagaland gained full state status in 1961. The mid-1990s
saw increased attacks by Naga guerrillas who favored extending the state of
Nagaland to include Manipur and portions of the two other bordering states, as
well as a portion of Myanmar.

ULFA is not communist. Even if they are, I was talking about rebels in Nagaland,
not UILFA. They are not atheists, Muslims, or Hindus. They are Christians.
When a Muslim is involved, regardless of motive or situation (like the
occupation of west bank, illegal occupation of Iraq), the media refers to them
Muslim terrorists.
In this case, then, we have CHRISTIAN TERROROISTS in Nagaland.

Well, the article you provided spoke of the liberation front of Assam

But since the last blast in India is blamed on the National Democratic
Front of Bodoland, they now say both may be attributable to them even
though they admit many other groups can be the culprit.

Two Naga rebel factions, both maintaining a ceasefire with Indian
security forces, have blamed each other for the blasts. However,
intelligence officials say they suspect that the NDFB is also behind the
Dimapur attack, as well as a late night assault on a passenger train on
the Assam-Nagaland border.
They suspect, they don't know which between those three in other words.
When a Muslim is involved, regardless of motive or situation (like the
occupation of west bank, illegal occupation of Iraq), the media refers to them
Muslim terrorists.
In this case, then, we have CHRISTIAN TERROROISTS in Nagaland.
THAT IS *IF* it is the group NDFB and not any of the others
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/3224670.stm (there are many
other separatist groups and the strongest rebel group is the socialist
one, as was also supposed in the article the other day), but here the
NDFB that is suspected for some reason, and yes, there are Christians in
it. Not all are Christians though. And anyway, they haven't caught
anyone so they don't know, there are many groups as the article says,
but in the past they NDFB has operated in such a way, so yes, they were
involved in such actions. Again, they are not all Christian. It is not a
Christian faith motivation, this is one of the difference. They do not
do it for the spread of "Christianity", they don't claim to do the work
of God while doing the work of the devil, UNLIKE MUSLIMS!!! They are not
CRAZY!
They do it for political reason! For autonomy. Nothing to do with
religion. Like the IRA. But they are not all Christians unlike in the
IRA. And yes, it is bad what they do. Even if we don't know if it is
them. But yes, if the government now change their views and suspect this
group, some Christians could be involved, doesn't mean they know who did
it, once again, may be some other groups. THEY DON'T KNOW... as of yet
anyway.
