We just moved out of the city ... but we have DSL here ... seems
everyone lives next door the Central Office.
My downloads are now wide open at 2.65 Mbps and uploads run at 600 kbps
.... it's smokin' ( speaking of which, I just passed my 6 month
anniversary from quitting cigarettes! ).
Satellite is becoming somewhat more reasonably priced as a highspeed
option. Plus it's bidirectional so no need to use the phone for uploads.

I've considered that. (At my old job, I had unlimited use at work, so I
didn't really worry that I was stuck on dial-up at home. This job is
different.) We already have the dish for the TV. Ma Bell co. says the
phone lines out here are too old to support DSL and will have to
upgraded...*someday*. No cable out here at all.

I think it was $100 setup and rates were in the $50/month range for the
satellite hi-speed.

They were sent to me on Feb.10th with nothing other than "And You Think
It Is Cold Here!" in the subject line.
I am going to assume that it was the last winter storm that hit the
upper east coast.
I believe that is frozen salt water mixed in with the frozen rain.
And ya KNOW THAT's COLD!! :)

Wow, that looks way different from all the ice storms I've seen. Very
neat (as a photo - I have less than zero interest in seeing the Real
Thing!).

Same here!
Glad I didn't snap them.
This is one of the things I love about the internet.....it takes you
right *there* and you don't even have to take a coat. ;)

That is really wild looking. Notice in that last photo the
cars on the other side of the street are not frozen. Weird.
They must have been in a garage. Try to imagine driving around
on a street covered with that amount of ice. Seems it would
be impossible without spiked tires.
I remember taking snow-mobiles into Yellowstone Park one
winter. We drove along what would have been a road in the
summer. There were depth markers alongside the road, and we
learned that the road is covered by about 6 feet of packed
ice during winter months. It would've been impossible to
drive this with a car.
