It goes back further than that to the pagan origins of the Islamic
religion. Islam is *directly* derived from the worship of Al-Ilah the
moon good the region, which predates Islam by many centuries and was the
basis for the Islamic religion invented by Mohammed.
It's no coincidence that phases of the moon are significant to Islam and
that its symbol is the crescent moon.
