Vietnam legislators want tough action against cruel teacher
A Vietnamese parliamentary committee called for tough action against a
teacher who awarded "barbarous" punishments to third grade
students.
In a directive Monday to the Hai Phong city education department, the
National Assembly Committee for Population, Family, and Children
instructed local authorities to discipline Tu Thi Loan of Vo Thi Sau
primary school and report back.
Last Friday Loan came late to a third-grade class and learnt that four
of the students had behaved boisterously in her absence.
She hauled them up and began to slap their faces, grab their ears, and
bump their heads together.
She let one of them go after his nose began to bleed.
But she made the other three crawl 100 times around the room on their
knees without using their hands.
After they did 20 rounds she relented but told them to kneel until the
end of the class.
Her actions drew flak from angry parents who said more then the bruises
on their knees it was the humiliation in front of 40 others that would
leave a scar on the young minds.
Loan has been suspended by the Hai Phong education department.
