My long experience with the psychiatric community had wake-up moments that
reflected the existential humor of this video. I especially remember one MSW
outpatient therapist who quite unexpectedly grew agitated with me and said,
"Look, if you're just in the system for a free ride in life, bucko, then I
don't want to waste my time on you. Too many I've seen act like they're in
need of help, when they're just spoiled kids and slackers. So...WHAT ARE YOU
DOING HERE?"
I replied angrily, "I could ask you the same thing. Was that ***** comment
supposed to be from a sensitive and well-trained professional or someone who
needs a lot of help themselves?"
I walked out, feeling better and worse at the same time. LOL! Sane, insane,
normal, abnormal...the definitions begin to blur as life grinds on and one
sees past the veneers, lies, and various roles. It's a loony species, with
moments of self-awareness, lucidity, love, truth, and rationality that save
it from ruin. At least...so far, anyway. heehee...
