I just heard it on CNN from some guy that seems honest in his number
conclusion. I'll check on CNN.COM.
Of course that bean pusher might have miscounted too.
I guess we shall just have to wait and see.

Don't KNOW quite what the actual death toll will be because it iz still
too early !!
They are concentrating on rescuing the living & they are leaving the
dead bodies to fester & bloat up in the water.. (Eventually they will
start to decay & deteriorate, so they need to get cracking on that or
there will be massive outbreaks of disease)
Anyway, we certainly can be sure the death toll is at least several
thousand -- but it is still too early to determine exact numbers)

Katrina fury: Thousands killed in New Orleans
-------------------------------------------------
NDTV Correspondent
Thursday, September 1, 2005 (New Orleans):
The Mayor of New Orleans has said that Hurricane Katrina has probably
killed thousands of people there.
If the estimate is accurate then this would make the storm by far
America's deadliest hurricane in more than a century.
US President George Bush cut short his vacation to take stock of the
disaster.
Residents stranded
In New Orleans many residents remain stranded on rooftops and balconies
- some wave pieces of clothing to attract the attention of rescuers, as
the floodwaters continue to rise.
It's estimated that up to 100,000 people remain in the city - 25,000
residents have taken refuge in the Superdome, which is struggling to
cope.
New Orleans Mayor, Ray Nagin has called for a complete evacuation of
the city. He also said that it will be three to four months before
residents can return to the city, which is nearly 80 per cent
submerged.
When asked how many people had died, he answered: "Minimum, hundreds.
Most likely, thousands."
Huge losses
Insurance experts estimate Hurricane Katrina will result in up to $25
billion in insured losses.
Army engineers believe it will be weeks before all the water that
flowed into the New Orleans through breached levees can be pumped back
out.
The situation is becoming even more dangerous- gunfire can be heard in
the city and hundreds of looters are roaming the streets and ransacking
shops.
Late Wednesday, Nagin ordered 1,500 police to leave their
search-and-rescue missions and return to the streets of New Orleans to
stop the looting.
Lending hand
US President George W Bush took a first hand look at the damage when he
flew back to Washington from his ranch in Crawford, Texas.
Bush, who is expected to tour the area on Friday, has already called on
American citizens to lend a hand.
"Our hearts and prayers are with our fellow citizens along the Gulf
Coast who have suffered so much from Hurricane Katrina. These are
trying times for the people of these communities," he said.
Problems such as a possible epidemic are being kept a close watch on.
But Katrina has also had an effect on global oil prices as crude oil in
the international market rose close to $71 a barrel.

I am going shopping today - at the gun store. I have been wanting to

I need one for each hand and a shotgun as well.

And there lies one of the major problems. Idiots with guns.

Don't forget the fully automatic assault rifle, with armour piercings

I just posted that I saw it and heard it on CNN.
They also just said that the first bus to arrive at
the Astrodome in Houston was not from the
Superdome group of people but was a 'Renagade'
bus taken by a 20 year old black man and filled
with those in need of evacuation.

The looters are firing at anything that moves. The Superdome won't be
evacuated until the national guard, if there are any left, move in.
