Ex U.S. military commanders warn against Iran attack
LONDON (Reuters) - Three former senior U.S. military officials warn that
any military action against Iran would have "disastrous consequences" and
urged Washington to hold immediate and unconditional talks with Tehran.
The Bush administration has increased the regularity and vehemence of its
accusations against Iran, prompting speculation it could be laying the
ground for military attack against the Islamic state.
Washington has also sent a second aircraft carrier to the Gulf, a move
seen as a warning to Iran which the United States accuses of seeking
atomic arms and fuelling instability in Iraq and elsewhere in the Middle
East. Iran denies the charges.
In a letter to London's Sunday Times newspaper, the three former U.S.
military leaders said attacking Iran "would have disastrous consequences
for security in the region, coalition forces in Iraq and would further
exacerbate regional and global tensions," they wrote.
"The current crisis must be resolved through diplomacy," they said.
The letter was signed by retired army Lieutenant General Robert Gard, a
former military assistant to Defense Secretary Robert McNamara, retired
U.S. Marine Corps General Joseph Hoar, a former commander in chief of U.S.
Central Command; and retired Navy Vice Admiral Jack Shanahan, a former
director of the Center for Defense Information.
They urged the U.S. government to "engage immediately in direct talks with
the government of Iran without preconditions.
"There is time available to talk, we must ensure that we use it," they
said.
The three men have joined previous petitions calling on the Bush
administration to change course in its policy on Iran.
Washington broke ties with Iran in 1980. It has offered to hold direct
talks with Iran but only once Tehran halts its drive to produce nuclear
fuel through uranium enrichment.
Iran, which says it wants to enrich uranium to make nuclear reactor fuel,
not bombs, has refused.
U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates on Friday said Washington was not
planning for war with Iran, but again accused Tehran of supplying bombs
for deadly attacks against U.S. troops in Iraq.

The US has to deal with quite a feat.
a.. Iran has been identified as the world's leading state sponsor of
international terrorism, funding Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad, and Hamas, as
well as Shiite insurgent groups. Iran is even recruiting its youth and
students across the Middle East for suicide operations against Western
targets.
a.. Religious extremism, particularly Islamic fundamentalism, is one of the
key dangers in the world today. The Iranian President is a religious
extremist who believes that it is his destiny to trigger a period of chaos,
war and bloodshed in order for Islam to dominate the world.
a.. Nuclear proliferation is one of the greatest dangers to world peace. We
must act to stop Iran before it can develop nuclear technology, because the
Iranian President has said that he would share nuclear technology with other
Muslims.
a.. The President of Iran believes that he is creating an Islamic
"superpower," which will bring down the West, including the United States.
He says that he will have hundreds of millions of Muslim "holy raiders"
eager to become martyrs.
a.. The Iranian President does not believe the Holocaust happened and has
called for the destruction of Israel. If we do not act, we run the risk of
placating an extremist and making the same mistake we made with Hitler,
which led to World War II and the deaths of millions.
I doubt that they will start making concessions that will give ground to the
Iranians to claim some victory, knowing it won't change anything in what
they do in reality, despite what they say with their mouth.
I understand them to want to first see something from them before they make
any concession. Who are these pseudo military commanders? One is apparently
an old fart (Alzheimer?) to have been counseling McNamara. Not very reliable
bunch according to the little we have from your references...

J.

They are trying to head off a large conflict you'd like to see happen to
fulfill your interpretations of prophecy, and get your hated vented in
blood towards Muslims. We know about your well-documented bias toward the
Muslim faith, and Arabs, in general. They may be 'old farts' but they're
trying to stop an unneeded blood bath, while, on the other hand, the
assholes you support would like to see more blood spilled to cover their
ineptness, redirect attention away from their lies and blunders, justify
their illegal and unwarranted attack on Iraq, have folks forget they're in
the midst of a unwinnable civil war, ad nauseam. I'd like to see how you'd
look without your arms, Jeano...kind of hard to work the laptop after a
war disability like that. There have been over 2000 double amputees so far
on the American side. God knows how many Iraqis are missing limbs...but
it's all for the glory of God and prophecy, and righteousness,
nationalism, and all that fuckin' *****.

Doesn't matter. The deterrence is mutual now and it prevented India from
attacking Pakistan only a few years ago. Each time, India has won. It had
no reason to build its forces on Pakistan's border, posturing, but to plan
for another invasion and win again. But the nukes were there this

hegemony in the region will drive them to acquire that deterrence...and
then you'll likely not see the US militarily posturing, unless it wants to

No, they will prevent this from happening.

And no, there is no way the US or other states woiuld use nukes
preemptively (I am not talking about the new bunker busters here which
are merely big bombs), so they don't need any deterence.

But no way these terrorist states will be allowed to have nukes. You can

We should go liberate the Iranians of their land, liberate
them of their nuclear facilities, provide democracy, ensure

Freedom is not dominance, but from the people. Thoise who pretend that
freedom is dominance and want tyrants to dominate, are loonies, and to see
that they come on a prophecies newsgroup to promote their support for such
hatemongering and antisemitism is, like, the world upside down.
The prophecies do not go in the sense of this insanity.

Yeah, it's like those who want to dominate this group after being out of
it for months, by excluding all those who don't philosophically agree with
them, or harass endlessly those who don't agree, and arrogantly set
standards for participation in this group based on what they think the
group should be about, are simply ***** ideological/social tyrants who
have no respect for the freedom of the individual, or respect for their
right to speak their mind.
And those tyrants that believe in some hocus-pocus supernaturalism as part
of their 'rationalization' and 'participatory requirements' to exclude
and/or harass people in this group are patently disassociative
personalities who'd more appropriately fit into the therapy group of a
state mental hospital.

How will your latest irrational vitriolity dissuade me from engaging you?
You take a self-defeating course, Jeano. From the very first time you
re-entered APN from outer space, you chose to launch your attacks on me.
What more can you do, now that your leaders you supported have been proved
wrong, corrupted, and crazy? What more can you do, now that your support
for massive warfare has proven misguided (at best)? What more can you do
but to assail me for being here, in this small corner of your universe,
deride me in every way, and attempt vainly to elevate your fallen pride,
correct your wrongness, ad nausaeam?
You are an unfortunate creature of futile habit. The leaders you support
mirror your psychopathology. The future you envision is one that must
destroy and hurt, as you and your leaders repeat self- and
overtly-destructive behaviours.
Your Godly prophet has predicted or designed a future that engenders,
breeds hate, violence, and distrust among the believing peoples of the
world.
In the microcosm here at APN, you extend your personal paranoia, hatred,
intolerance to the macrocosm, and then reinforce it with what you think is
God's plan for humanity through prophectical interpretations,
reinterpretations.
You are a sick, deluded man, Jeano, and it won't be your enemies alone
that will suffer and perish in the world you believe will come, it will
also be assholes like yourself--and the greatest hard-reality shock to
your arrogance and self-righteousness will be there to greet you.
It is people like you -- the intolerant, the hateful, the racists, the
deluded, the extremists, the defenders and supporters of corrupted
leadership, the disingenious, the self-serving, that grind against others
who differ, and think more conflict will vanquish their many fears, and
force upon others a utopia of their liking -- it is they that make the
world a miserable place to live in, and have us embrace a frightful, ugly
future.
Your prophecies haven't given you insight into truth, but the avoidance of
it. And that truth you most want to avoid, is the truth about yourself.

We should go liberate the Iranians of their land, liberate
them of their nuclear facilities, provide democracy, ensure

of the United States of America... amen.

We should also dig up Gerald Ford and kick his ***** for not invading
Cambodia in 1975, removing Pol Pot, militarily installing a democracy, and
occupying. We should dig up Richard Nixon and kick his ***** for not
invading Chile, removing Pinochet, militarily installing a democracy, and
occupying. We should kick the dead asses of Reagan, Nixon, Ford, Carter,
Bush I, Bush II, and Clinton for not preemptively attacking China,
militarily installing a democracy, and occupying...not to mention other
Executive-power happy Presidents that didn't move against the USSR's
dictatorship and godless society...after all, our military forces are to
be used like the Crusaders were, and go after governments that fire up our
moral indignation!! Yessir! Or, use them like the British did during their
campaign of global colonialism. They both had the right idea: humans in
one part of the planet have the right to feel a high moral superiority and
use violence and bloodshed to re-make the other part of the planet's
political/social/economic/religious landscape any ol' way they choose!!
And then we bury all the 'martyrs' for the superior philosophy and
execution of will, patch up, as best we can, the badly maimed and
disabled, and give them glowing tributes as the great majority who
supported all of it sit back in comfort, safety, and narcissistic
arrogance...and who haven't even spent extra tax dollars to support this
latest glorious 'liberation.' Money is pulled out of social programs for
the needy, disabled, elderly, homeless, etc., to finance this great
ideological campaign.
We don't need adversarial folks to even directly threaten our security any
more (as Ford had mentioned), or attack us, we just go off with 'hell fire
and damnation' and get the world to be more the way we dream about in the
pristine ambiance of our society thousands of miles removed from the
bloody 'liberation' front!
Yes, Perseid, we've missed many opportunities to militaristically,
ideologically make the world a more perfect place to live in, and pave the
way for the Saviour to return and establish his wondrous millenium of
utopian existence on earth!! When he gets back, Jesus probably won't like
these missed opportunities. It's gonna make his job harder.
Oooooh...the lamentations...!
Docrodile ;))~
