This 'dispute' was between the Aboriginal People of the Land and The Governing Representative
(Prime Minister) of the time that this "Agreement" was made.
Modern Day 'Governmental Bodies' (and the Big Business Representatives that 'pushed' their
hand) had NO RIGHTs to try and 'Declare' this agreement as 'Invalid'.
Much like the 'Harris' Government ('Provincial Conservative Party') tried to do in Northern
Ontario.
In the end, the Rightful Owners of "These 'Sacred' Land" won their cases.
:-)
But, 'Brian Mulroney' is no longer Prime Minister of Canada and Harris is no longer the
Premier of Ontario, and the Oka 'fiasco' has already gone down in History as just another
'Failure' of Corporate Canada (backed by the 'Conservative Party') to 'steal' away land from
the Rightful Owners in the name of Progress.
Why are you bringing this up now ???

reserve. The town wanted to expand a golf course onto what the tribe
considered to be sacred ground as well as a burial ground.
I would have done the same if I were a member of the tribe. Quebec cries
constantly about language rights and their heritage but doesn't think
twice about destroying the heritage of what they thought were a bunch of
helpless natives.
Good on the Mohawks! Fighting for what was rightfully theirs!

I probably would have, too, Marvin. However, you don't kill police officers
doing their job. And you don't send in the army and then neuter them.

On land that was stolen from them by the Catholic Church.
