Astrology is an ‘esoteric’ science that allows us to glimpse into the
future, not exact events, per say, but periods of time when certain events
are likely or possible to occur within the vibration of certain alignments
or passing of celestial bodies. So accurate has astrology been proven that
it has survived several thousand years of civilization’s rises and falls.
Disciplined astrologers such as Dr. Turi, a French born astrologer who uses
a system of foretelling future events that was allegedly used by
Nostradamus, have accurately predicted many events, including the 9-11
tragedy, conflict in the Mid East, and religious crusades and have done so
to the month, even though their charts had been written more than a year
before the events happened. Turi, like many others of his peers, can even
accurately pinpoint personalities and personal events and potentials of
individuals and plot a life map or chart, as well.
The reason why certain events occur (or can occur) during particular
alignments of celestial bodies or celestial events is little understood,
even by the masters of the trade. Nonetheless, sufficient evidence in the
way of accurate recorded predictions has enforced a credibility of the
science that has endured the toughest scrutiny by the most sceptical
investigators.
Mechanisms known or not, any researcher who studies the evidence will find
that it does work and work well.
Calendars of Stone and Mystique
Most of us in the westernized world find that knowing the future is
imperative for governing and planning our daily and yearly lives yet we
never stop to consider how much are own calendars are based on similar
methods used by astrologers for acquiring data and charting the future. The
calendar accurately predicts not only days, weeks and months of any given
year or cycle, but also events such as eclipses and the exact time the sun
will rise or set at a specific location on a certain day. We then buy this
basic template and then annotate it with our own personal information to
remember future events for ourselves such as birthdays, anniversaries and
meetings.
Since astrology has been used as a science for thousands of years it is not
unrealistic to assume that ancient calendars were created in much the same
fashion. Astrologers, or astronomers of their day would calculate periods in
the future when certain alignments would take place and when the potential
for events would likely occur, and not only solstices and solar events such
as eclipses, but they could also annotate the periods to specific personal
or global events meaningful to them: when droughts or floods were likely to
occur in what area and year, or when planets aligned causing stress on our
own planet that in turn forewarned of future disasters.
It seems, too, that ancient cultures had more of an understanding of how
even the human psyche is effected under certain astrological conditions as
well as how even how an individual or a nation born under certain influences
might react when exposed to still other influences passing through them
during a lifetime.
The Maya calendar uses three different dating systems in parallel, the Long
Count, the Tzolkin (divine calendar), and the Haab (civil calendar). Of
these, only the Haab has a direct relationship to the length of the year.
The Haab was the civil calendar of the Mayas. It consisted of 18 "months" of
20 days each, followed by 5 extra days, known as Uayeb. This gives a year
length of 365 days. The Mayan Long Count used a system of counting of 1 to
13 rather than 0 to 12.

The Mayan Calendar seems to track a period of thousands of years whose end,
some scholars say, points to a specific date on our Gregorian Calendar of
December 23, 2012. The calendar, supported by local traditions and lore,
tells that the ‘end of time’ or the end of this present cycle, will occur
and will be forewarned by events such as natural disasters, warfare and
general chaos. The end time is the end of this present Mayan age and the
beginning of the next age to come. Many other cultures around the globe also
have legends or knowledge of such an event coming to pass. The Hopi are very
specific in their beliefs concerning the ending of the present Fourth World
and our emergence into the Fifth World.
