FSLN Leads Partial Elections
Managua, Feb 27 (Prensa Latina) The Sandinista National Liberation
Front (FSLN) leads the turn out at the Atlantic Coast for Sunday's
regional elections.
La Prensa daily said Monday the polls by Borges y Asociados indicate an
FSLN majority win at the North Atlantic Autonomous Region (RAAN) and
South (RAAS).
FSLN Daniel Ortega (40 percent) leads in RAAN, Liberal
Constitutionalist Party Eduardo Montealegre (19.6 percent) leads in
RAAS yet not with majority support and indigenous Yatama is third at
both.
Amid expected high abstentions on the Caribbean Coast these elections
are regarded as a pattern for the November elections for president,
legislature and Central American Parliament.
The PLC, still led by ex President Arnoldo Aleman who is serving a home
imprisonment sentence for corruption, is pictured as the great loser.
