Getting Tough On Terrorism -- Bush To Sign Law Authorizing Harsh Interrogation |
Yes -- fear not! The Chump-In-Chief is getting even tougher on
terrorism and keeping you and your families even safer.
While keeping his swager and smirk intact, the Chimp has legalized
torture and indefinite detainment. Fighting the enemies of freedom and
justice with shining examples of the best of human nature -- fear and
oppression.
On another note --
Leaked reports from the bipartisan committee looking into the Chimp's
Iraq War didn't include 'Victory' as an option. Add another failure to
the list. Once they're done looking at Iraq they should go back and
review the state of Afghanistan and see how stability might be brought
about there.
Just a few more weeks.
Cheers!!

Bush To Sign Law Authorizing Harsh Interrogation
Tue Oct 17, 2006 1:13 AM ET
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush, keeping his election-year focus
on national security, is to sign a bill into law on Tuesday that allows
tough interrogation and prosecution of terrorism suspects.
The Military Commissions Act of 2006 sets standards for interrogating
suspects, but through a complex set of rules that human rights groups
say could allow harsh techniques bordering on torture, such as sleep
deprivation and induced hypothermia.
With Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and Attorney General Alberto
Gonzales looking on, Bush is to sign the bill which was negotiated in
September after senior Republicans rebelled against the president's
plan and forced concessions from him.

Except that it's not tougher on Terrorism, it's a power grab. If he
really wanted to be tougher on Terrorism, he'd be focusing on intelligence
and securing ports. All he's doing is giving himself the authority to
call someone an enemy combatant, thus stripping them of any rights
whatsoever (habeus corpus, being charged within 24 hours of detention,
right to remain silent, right to an attorney). He also gets to decide what
constitutes torture, and anything he says isn't torture can be used to
coerce statements, which can then be used as 'evidence' in court.
It's a power grab, pure and simple. There is not one shred of evidence to
indicate that any of the sweeping powers Bush just grabbed have the
ability to stop terrorism or any sort.

I realize -- they're using 'tough on terrorism' to strip away rights,
nullify your Constitution and do away with the checks and balances of
your governing institutions.
It's not a good time to have these con men in control.
