Object: Huge storms sweep northern Europe
At least 16 people have been killed as violent storms lashed northern
Europe, causing travel chaos across the region.
Britain was the worst hit with eight people killed as rain and gales of up
to 70mph (112km/h) swept the country.
Hurricane-force winds battering Germany have claimed at least three lives.
The other deaths were reported in the Netherlands and France.
The severe weather has forced hundreds of flight, rail and ferry
cancellations and prompted road and school closures.

It's been quite a day, Mondo, my damned fencing flew off down the road!
It was quite a storm and lasted all day long. It's only just died down
now. Being on the SW coast we felt the worst of it. The storm started
about 2am this morning and lasted some 16 hours, the gusts were quite
un-nerving.

We've had several having record breaking wind storms here for the past two
months. Now I guess it's your turn!

Glad that you're okay, Ricky. I read about the storm this
evening on CNN, and it sounds like a real doozy. Actually, considering
that you're not really used to big storms there, it's remarkable that only
8 people died. Must be that people were far more sensible than, say, the
meteorologists on The Weather Channel here in the States!

That's a bit of a premature assumption. By tomorrow I bet the numbers will
be much bigger..

We had them here in the north last weekend...two people killed by
falling trees, one a nine year old boy. Fucked everything up. I
couldn't get to work on Monday morning because the trains weren't going
anywhere...I work 250km from home and travel on monday morning and back
home friday evening. Had to wait till tuesday to get here. They did say
they were expecting more on thursday but they seem to have hit
continental Europe and GB instead. Stay fuckin' home. As long as you've
plenty of beer in your fridge and a good supply of "coffin nails"
there's no reason to venture out!

Well, one might be inclined to venture forth for some petrol for the
generator to keep that fridge working when the power goes out. ;-)

But be carefull not to die from carbon monoxide poisoning if that happens.

I did exactly that Chris!
Took one glance ouside at trees 'dancing' to a wailing allegro tune,
and decided today was a good day for staying home.
Four sections of quite heavy 6ft 6inch fencing thundered down the
road...it can stay there..I'll see to it another day! They say the
gusts were up to 100 mph, and that's quite easy to believe.
Anyway, staying up tonight to watch the cricket from Australia. Let the
wind do it's worst!
