Verse translation
Seated in his study secretly at night,
Upon the bronze tripod, alone and sleeping:

From the solitude a tiny flame in sight,

Made to utter that which is not vain thinking.
Based on Iamblicus's De Mysteriis Aegyptiorum, as published in Latin
by Petrus Crinitus in his De honesta disciplina of 1504 and republished
in Lyon by Gryphius in 1552, referring to the oracle of Delphi in
Greece, the telephone psychic of ancient times, where people came from
all over Europe to call on the Pythia at Mount Parnassus to have their
questions about the future answered. "The prophetess at Delphi,
however, whether she gives oracles to human beings from a tenuous and
fire-like spirit brought up from somewhere through an aperture, or
vaticinates sitting in the inner shrine, upon the bronze chair with
three feet or upon the four-footed chair sacred to the divinities,
gives herself up entirely to the divine spirit and is shined upon by
the ray of the fire." [Translated by Alexander Wilder, 1911].

But really it is an exercise on how his Quatrains are structured and
the following one also shows that some events have a number of
Quatrains as opposed to some having a single one.
Where he took his inspiration is of some interest but has no
significant bearing.
The message.'

[The magician] is seated at night [in] occult study, Alone, resting on
the brazen stool--A feeble flame emerging from the solitude Reveals
that which can well be believed.
Line 1. Or, 'in the occult study of night,' star-watching. Line 2.
'repous=E9' is MF 'repose,; 'o' and 'ou' often being interchangeable.
Line 4. 'proferer' (to utter) or Latin derivational meanings,
'appear/reveal.' Possible, though perhaps strained, 'Causes one to
appear who may well be believed.' Later editions read 'prosperer' (to
prosper).
These first two quatrains are not to be taken literally. They
correspond to the invocation of the Muse, setting the tone for the book
and demonstrating the poet's learning.
CI -Q2 La verge en main mise au milieu de BRANCHES De l'onde il moulle
et le limbe et le pied. Vn peur et voix fremissent par les manches,
Splendeur diuine. Le diuin pr=E9s s'assied.
Wand in hand, [wand] set in the middle of the tripod, With the water he
moistens both the border [of his robe] and his foot. In fear, trembling
in [his] sleeves, he sees [The] divine splendor. The magician seats
himself nearby.
Line 1. 'BRANCHES' may mean branches or tripod legs. It also suggests
the prophetic cult of Branchos, son of Apollo, whose descendants, the
Branchides, served a shrine at Miletus. The sequence of events
described by Nostradamus is taken from the description of this cult in
pseudo-Iamblichus's Mysteries of the Egyptians and Chaldeans.
Line 2. 'onde,' poetic diction. Line 3. Reading 'En peur il voit.' The
received text, 'A fear and voice.' Also possible, 'In fear he sees the
divine splendor quivering (shimmering?) amid the tripod handles.' Line
4=2E 'diuine : . diuin.' Repetition.of.a word with a different meaning is
a poetic device often used in the Quatrains.
For another picture of a Renaissance astrologer 'Before a square
Table, covered with a green Carpet, on which lay a huge Booke in Folio,
wide open, full of strange Characters, such as the Aegyptians and
Chaldeans were never guiltie of, not farre from this, a silver Wand, a
Surplus, a Watering Pot, with all the superstitious or rather fayned
Instruments of his cousening Art. And to put a fairer Colour on his
black and foule Science, on his head he had a four-cornered Cap, on his
Backe a faire Gowne (but made of a strange fashion), in his right hand
he held an Astrolabe, in his left a Mathematical Glass,' John Melton,
Astrologaster, or the Figure-Caster, London, 1620.

No, Gary, the original is meaningful gobbledygook, which you made
disappear in your English adaptation. The beginning "BEING seated
at night..." is ok. The last two words of the line are not
properly linked to the start of the line. It is an encyphered
text, that's why it is not properly linked.

In other words, it is not vain to believe that which is the
product of the divination process described herein.

This verse (and its companion I-2) is not prophetic, it describes
the prophetic process. The decyphered text IS prophetic. It
describes what Nostradamus saw in his visions. And he did not
like what he saw:

In modern English, with asterisks between words no longer used or

the *burned* *town* of Paris, Nostradamus fastens in elegy all
the *facts* which shall arrive after his Death.'

Your ignorance has no bounds Mr Fraude, since it is 16th century french
verse being translated into what is called english verse!
Perhaps you should understand the rules of translating verse, before
making a fool of yourself, yet again!
