Rockville, Md. (AP) - An illegal alien who ran a red light and hit a car -
killing a five-year-old girl inside - got a ten-year prison sentence Thursday
from a Montgomery County (website - news) judge.
Prosecutors say Marbin Gomez-Delgado is likely to be deported back to Guatemala
by the federal government once he does his time in Maryland.
Police say he was speeding at 62 mph in a 35 mph zone when he ran the light in
Silver Spring in May of last year. After the crash, investigators say
Gomez-Delgado admitted he had drank 19 beers in the previous 24 hours.
He also vanished after being released from the hospital, and it took
investigators a few months to hunt him down and charge him with manslaughter,
which a jury later convicted him of.
