Recieved a request from the DOD two weeks ago. The request is a =
voluntary call up for heavy armor personnel. Several others from my =

They were young, so was I. And it's Aircraft Structural Mechanic, Armorer is a
different MOS. What that boiled down to was putting little round pieces of
aluminum over the bullet holes so the bird wouldn't whistle Dixie in flight.
That, and hosing out the interiors. We had one that was so shot up that after
the repair it looked like it was attacked by a truckload of beer cans. But it
still got off the ground. Hueys were damn tough birds. Nowdays, it's all
composites, and repairs are more difficult in the field.
But this is all ancient history, and as much as I like flying the hangar, it
brings unpleasant memories to the surface. Can we agree to let this one fade
away?

memories?) Awesome book.. Mason describes how they used to land in a
