waterfalls are something else again though. They are spectacular.
That part of Java hasn't benefited by any real tourism, and a couple
of years ago the State started a project to make the waterfalls into a
tourist area. A lot of money (by Idonesian standards) was put into the
project.
The report looks...suspect to me. Oh, I don't doubt that they have
cornered a huge python, Hell, there are thousands of the things about
there. It's weight and size are in question though. If I did go, well,
all I could say was...umm, "big isn't it" (To digress, Eric the
envious Davies wouldn't say that!;))
I should have to...ugh..handle the thing and weigh it to be sure.
Measuring a python isn't too simple!
So, given the collapse a few years ago of the Indonesian economy, the
reliance on tourism, the investment in the Curgeswa waterfall project
and the absence of tourists since the Bali bombing, there is one
rather obvious conclusion.
The dimensions of the snake have almost certainly been exagerated in
an attempt to lure tourists to the impoverished area. In any event,
the consumption of 5 dogs a day by a python of whatever size is more
than unlikely...they a'int that voracious!
Nope, we are going to have to wait for a trustworthy source, something
like the Guiness book of records...to verify the creatures size.
I know the people there though, and this exageration in the name of
economic advantage is more than just probable!

Well since you nor anyone decided to counter my bait. Let me elaborate
about the battle of the sexes. Yes, Tony will strongly disagree with
my politics. What else is new.
Women rule in that they sit back and tell their men to go out and do
the back breaking work. Women are more practical, and men are more
ego-driven and are dreamers of winning (look at the sports fanatics),
while women find their ego satisfied by having good relationships and
good kids and out-living men to spend their pension money. Men seek to
go out and gain power and dominance and to fight, sometimes stupidly,
sometimes necessarily to protect the nation and family.
But it is usually the men who rule in the business world. Part of that
is genetic and part nurture. There is hope for women in the future.
Last year more women attended a medical school than men, for the first
time in US history. There's a lot of money in the health field. But
the glass ceiling does exist, and many men would try to keep women in
the home, and not out competing for the power positions in jobs. Men
still out-earn women on average. I am all for women having equality in
earning salaries. Perhaps I didn't make that clear in recent times.
Although women can be very seductive, especially visually or
physically; and are champions at throwing bait out to get men to do
the heavy lifting, it is men who are the champions in seduction on a
large scale. Men need to fight because stress makes differences.
Oxytocin is secreted. That makes a woman more friendly. But
testosterone in men blocks the effects of oxytocin, so the adrenalin
and cortisol make men choose the fight or flight response, unless
women calm men down. So men are in general more motivated to compete
and win. Egos are involved, and most of the trouble in the world is
caused by stressed men, who would even fight stupid wars to get their
way. Women would eschew wars in general. Women are more nurturing,
practical, and friendly, and stress good relationships.
Men are the great large scale seducers of women. How else can you
explain women voting Republican? The Republican Party is not for
women's rights. It's true that more men vote Republican than women.
But why do women vote Republican? Because there are large scale male
seducers out there, with a few exceptions like Laura Ingraham. They
put down the feminist movements. But men are usually the preachers;
the pastors, rabbis, and talk show hosts. They are more driven in
power politics. And they recruit women's vote in churches or on radio,
by mentioning God every chance they get. They mention the
Judeo-Christian God, though Jews and Christians have a different idea
of whom or what God is.
When the topics of the day are who cares about the average family's
finances; the talk show hosts would concentrate on religious topics.
Prager and Medved would be examples, and many more of their ilk. Women
are seduced into believing that a vote for Republicans is a vote for
God. Men only need the patriotic and xenophobic messages to turn them
on to vote Republican. I am an agnostic, and am unsure if there is a
perfect God of the universe. Even the biblical God repented, so would
not be perfect. A perfect God would not do anything to repent for. I
don't believe in nonlocal connections across the universe. I only
believe that photons are strange. When "nonlocal connections" can be
shown with other particles besides photons (Feynmann calculated that
antiphotons can go backwards in time) in Clauser-type or Aspect-type
experiments, I might start believing in nonlocal connections.
The Republican Party rewards the rich and takes from the poor. This
was evident in the stock market. Enron would be an example. And
instead of punishing the rich, the Republican Party rewards them. In
the stock market the rich have a huge advantage. They can group
together and have someone buy options on a company, and then the group
buys the stock of that company with millions of dollars, which of
course drives the stock price higher. Unless there is tremendous
growth in the economy or the stock market investment cash, for every
winner there would be many losers. While the rich were getting in and
out of the market, the less rich were stuck in the market with their
mutual funds and 401K's. That's where the middle class took heavy
losses. Other gouging and shenanigans cost the middle class as well,
such as hiding losses, money laundering, touting losing companies, and
other deceptions that are in the news even today with Enron exec
pleas.
So when there is outsourcing of jobs to Asia and Eastern Europe, and
people say "wha...?", the spin meisters on talk radio quickly turn the
topic to God and religion, or start waving the flag about patriotism
and fighting the evil with the goodness of America. But Iraq and
Afghanistan-Pakistan are sinkholes for American lives (and the lives
of people of many other nationalities), as well as sinkholes for
money. Now as before, the Republican Party seeks slave labor for
profits to make up for the jingoist-driven sinkhole wars. The
terrorists are not good people; but the US is all over the Middle
East, and not vice versa. God might have "told" Bush to fight Iraq on
Iraq's terms; eventhough no wmds have been found. It's a warped
strategy that is costly, and so where is the Social Security surplus?
As the Democratic candidates have stated, the war should be against
bin Laden's men, and not Iraq which was a sovereign nation, though a
committer of atrocities and Saddam is no saint. But Bush is thinking
about the oil, though reconstruction of Iraq will cost the US plenty
after the election.
What does this have to do with men and women, and which sex rules? Men
can be and are large scale seducers on average. The women believe the
propaganda masters when they say God is on their side. When people say
"why reward illegal immigrants with jobs in restaurants?", the
propaganda ministers cover up by switching their shows on those days
to religious topics. It's slave labor, whether it's sweatshops in Asia
with no employer's compensation for accidents in bad work conditions;
and slave labor with illegal aliens in the US. That is good for
profits and might gain the Hispanic vote and helps the trickle down
theory illusion.
Who's in charge of this seduction of women? Ambitious men and their
talking heads, who stress religion and talk about good and evil
people, to divert attention from the suffering of those legal US
residents who do not have job security, also the lack of funding for
education state budgets and other priorities, since the US in deep in
debt. Men are the seducers and rule the world's politics on a large
scale.
And about having a lot of kids and pregnancy; if you checked the World
Almanacs in the early 1990's, you would have foreseen the turmoil in
the present. Birth control was not effective in the Middle East and
Central America. Syria for instance had 50% of its population below
the age of 15. The Middle East would be ripe for war around now, and
Central America could send their young men to cross over the border to
work in the US. Birth control makes sense.
