Object: Intelligence continues to undermine Bush
So it's clear to the analysts that Bush's lust for the control of
Iraq's oil has made us less safe.
Yes, Mr. President, what happens when the war in Iraq ends and we have
to deal with blowback from Al Queda terrorists bred in Iraq?
What happens when the terrorist organizantions you should have
destroyed in Pakistan and Afghanistan strike here even while their
brothers still fight us in Iraq?
Stupid, inbred fortunate sons wanting to play war, be "war
presidents".

The White House faced fresh political peril yesterday in the form of a
new intelligence assessment that raised sharp questions about the
success of its counterterrorism strategy and judgment in making Iraq
the focus of that effort.
Since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, President Bush has been able to
deflect criticism of his counterterrorism policy by repeatedly noting
the absence of any new domestic attacks and by citing the continuing
threat that terrorists in Iraq pose to U.S. interests.
But this line of defense seemed to unravel a bit yesterday with the
release of a new National Intelligence Estimate that concludes that al-
Qaeda "has protected or regenerated key elements of its Homeland
attack capability" by reestablishing a haven in Pakistan and
reconstituting its top leadership. The report also notes that al-Qaeda
has been able "to recruit and indoctrinate operatives, including for
Homeland attacks," by associating itself with an Iraqi subsidiary.

And now it's clear why ol' Chertoff the Impaler made that odd 'gut
feeling' warning, and there has been a recent resurgence (or
regurgitation) of terror warnings, and general official hand-wringing
splashed all over the media.
It was in advance of this report just released. Ye olde tricks...

success of its counterterrorism strategy and judgment in making Iraq
the focus of that effort.

Why did it take the Washington Post until after an intelligence assessment
came out to start asking questions? It was not a huge lift to consider
this as a very likely outcome - or even *the* most likely outcome. Where
was the fifth estate when Bush kept framing his oil war as 'the war on
terror' when every journalist on the entire planet knew perfectly well
that not a single terrorist in 9/11 came from Iraq?
I'll tell you why - they're lazy and stupid. They're perfectly willing to
take a press release from the White House, without question, and post it
as a news story. No wonder newspaper readership is down! (That, and the
fact that most editors these days can't even write using proper grammar!)
