Iran: Not Afraid Of Sanctions
August 03, 2004
Iran is not afraid of being referred to the U.N. Security Council over
its suspect nuclear program and could easily withstand economic
sanctions, Sayed Hossein Mussavian, a top member of the Iranian
Supreme National Security Council, said Aug. 3. Mussavian responded to
a question about Israeli threats to attack Iranian nuclear facilities
by calling the threats baseless and saying he doesn't think America or
Israel would dare attack Iran's nuclear facilities. Mussavian's
comments come during a potential break in relations between the
International Atomic Energy Agency and Iran. The European Union's
talks with Tehran last week failed to make substantial progress in
restricting Iran's nuclear program.
