President Calls for Revival of Islamic Civilization's Lustrous
Era
TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Iranian President Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad said Islamic countries can revive the radiant era of Islamic
civilization through cooperation, companionship and unity.
Speaking in a meeting with the Malaysian Minister of Science and
Technology Jamaludin Jarjis here on Sunday, Ahmadinejad laid emphasis on
the outstanding role and responsibility of the two countries in the
progress and advancement of the Islamic Ummah (nation).
"The radiant era of Islamic Civilization will be revived to respond
to man's unanswered needs and to satiate the world's thirst for welfare,"
he reiterated.
The president further appreciated the Malaysian government,
specially Abdullah Badawai, for having identified the crucial world
responsibilities of the Islamic countries, and further described as
excellent and very fruitful that country's term of presidency over the
Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) and the Non-Aligned Movement
(NAM).
Describing the Iranian and Malaysian nations as two brotherly
states, he stressed the need for both countries to enhance their
cooperation in providing proper response to human needs and in the
establishment of true peace, tranquility and progress.
The chief executive official referred to the two countries'
agreements on joint cooperation in research activities, particularly in
the field of Nanotechnology, and viewed progress in the said field as
crucially important for both Iran and Malaysia.
"Iran and Malaysia can make rapid progress in these new branches of
science, play complementary to each other and present the world with their
new achievements," he pointed out.
For his part, Malaysian Minister of Science and Technology Jamaludin
Jarjis highlighted Iran's vital role in global developments, and specially
in the world of Islam, and stressed that the different world nations,
Muslims in particular, have pinned much hope in the Islamic Republic of
Iran.
He further voiced Malaysia's strong support for Iran's access to
peaceful nuclear technology and other fields of hi-tech, and added, "Kuala
Lumpur believes that the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) entitles
Iran to attain its peaceful goals."
Noting the radiant background of the development of science in the
world of Islam and reminding that Muslims led the world civilization for a
thousand years, the official reiterated that Iran and Malaysia can play an
effective role in accelerating the Islamic societies' progress and access
to hi-tech through reinvigorating and increasing mutual cooperation.
He also made a proposal for the reinvigoration of the two countries'
scientific and research cooperation, particularly in the field of
Nanotechnology, through the establishment of two centers for mutual
cooperation in the two countries.
Jamaludin Jarjis stressed his country's enthusiasm for cooperation
with Iranian research centers in various grounds, including aerospace.

Radiant is right; they'll be glowing in the dark for some time. Don't hold
your breath; it's tough to get things done when you spend half the day on your
face praying to a rockpile in Mecca.

Ya know, it may very well turn out that the hardline Mahmoud will foment a
moderate backlash against his extremist policies. There are indications
that the recent election poll in Iran show that a majority of Iranians
aren't too happy with Mahmoud.
The hardline Bush/neocon/rightwing evangelist movement here has been
largely moderated now, and even some parts totally rejected.
It seems that historically extremism in politics runs its course kinda'
like a bad case of diarrhea -- lots of crampy pains and flatulence and
then finally the damn ***** blows out...and the crisis rather abruptly
ends. LOL!

We can only hope. That's the real problem with extremism; in the long run it's
bad for business. Sure, in the short run you get surges of high profits for
the few, but it's not sustainable. But that wasn't the purpose of this little
exercise. Look at all the repressive Fascist legislation that's gone onto the
books in the last five years, driven by Fear. What civil liberties? And it's
not just here in the US, it's worldwide. This stuff won't go away when the
guns fall silent at the end of the fever, it'll be here for the forseeable
future. I've come to the inescapable conclusion that the government is peopled
by obbsessive compulsive disorder sufferers. Everybody's government, not just
ours. It's a systemic flaw in government itself. Government IS the problem,
not the solution. This is compounded when religion infuses itself into
government. None of the religions currently practiced have any basis in
rationality, but some are more irrational than others, and the more irrational
the belief, the worse things get for the grunt on the street. Short of a
global disaster, I don't see any way out of this cycle of fear and destruction
driven by extremism and outright paranoia. Where's a Big Rock when you really
need one?
