As Israeli troops return home in disgrace, Olmert fights to keep his
job, as Nasrallah is hailed as a hero, and the ranks of Hezbollah are
greatly increased. On the battle field, as Israel was pulling back
from it's positions, Hezbollah militia with weapons in hand could be
seen walking away. Israeli troops were ordered not to try to disarm
them. So Hezbollah keeps it's arms, keeps it's Israeli POWs, and is
rearming. What an accomplishment!!!
Also, Nazrallah has guaranteed that anyone who lost a home in the
Israeli bombing will be compensated - ie. free rent for at least a year
as well as furniture, etc. Just hours after the ceasfire Hezbollah
officials, clipboards in hand were combing over ruins, taking stock of
damage, and assessing claims for assistance. No wonder Hezbollah was
so popular...and thanks to Olmert, Hezbollah is hailed throughout the
entire Arab world.

'rest and regroup until the next round'. Fundamentally nothing
has changed between the two sides, but Israel is a little safer

Personally, I'd be surprised if the peace lasts even a few
days. Hezbolla has made it clear they will not surrender
their arms per the terms of the agreement, and UN Peace-Keepers
are not prepared for heavy combat to disarm them. Even a
'muscular' UN division is going to suffer significant losses
if it tries to enforce the agreement.
Israel had such a nice kill-box set up... nothing going in
or out except Israeli troops.

Looks like they'll fight til Israel is no more.

It seems like the UN hasn't done much hard core combat in situations like
this. I don't think too many troops want to risk death and dismemberment
for "world peace". Pipe dream.

Yes, I think it's a very good start to the peace process when both sides
think they've won. I'm sure the troublemakers will start claiming the

Some leaders and a number of common people. I was watching Thomas Friedman
one recent Sunday morning and he was talking about the existence of an
almost all consuming hatred for Israel in the ME. He was saying how Muslims
aren't looking to their own present and futures the way people generally do.
Too much widespread, unhealthy focus that inhibits creative work in terms of
economic growth, education, the building of a normal society.
