"King of the Bull"
Based on the performance of Roger Miller's "King of the Road"
(1965) --Parody by Gary Ray
On March 23, 2007, 15 British sailors were captured and held hostage by
the Iranian Navy, while they were on patrol for smugglers near (or in?)
that nation's national waters. A major international incident ensued, and
much mutual propaganda was mined for both the UK and Iran. Just before
Easter, Iran released the sailors, unharmed. Accusations by Iran that the
sailors were on a spy mission continued, though, while the UK government
insisted the sailors were not. Some political observers suspect the
sailors' sordid accounts may be, in part, state propaganda. More
controversy erupted when some sailors were allowed by the UK government to
sell their hostage stories to the media. Later, this unpopular ruling was
reversed.
Sailors for sale or rent, bull to sell trillion pence
Interview phone, telly, tabloid, I ain't got no preference
Ah but, two hours of pushin' state bull buys a
Fifteen or twenty room bungalow
I'm a sailor of means by media means, king of the bull
Third World midnight incursion, destination evil Iran
Starched Navy uniform and shiny shoes, I don't pay no civilian dues
I smoke joints we have found, powerful but not too big around
I'm a sailor of means by media means, king of the bull
I know every drug runner on every waterway
All the smugglers and all of their names
And all the free smoke wipes away every frown
And every joint that ain't smoked gets me down
I sing...
