BURNEY, Calif. (AP) - A light earthquake rattled a mountainous region
of Northern California Tuesday afternoon.
The 4.4-magnitude temblor struck at 1:21 p.m. and was centered about
seven miles northwest of Burney and 41 miles northeast of Redding in
Shasta County, according to a preliminary report from the U.S.
Geological Survey.
Authorities received between 10 and 15 calls from people asking whether
the jolt was an earthquake, but didn't receive any reports of injuries
or damage, according to Dorothy Gimblin, a Shasta County Sheriff's
Department service officer in Burney.
"There was a bang and the building shook," Gimblin said. "I watched the
antennas wave on the vehicles. It was a pretty good one."
