I wish all nuts were like Tom. I'd have myself committed if they were.

Wasn't Matt attacking Tom's (Scientology) religion at that point off the interview.
I think anyone here would have been just as defensive if anyone had attacked their
beliefs.
Am I Right ???

I wouldn't say Matt was attacking - he was questioning! It was about
Psychiatric drugs such as Ritalin.
Let's just say Tom feels VERrrrrrry passionate about the subject and
leave it at that.
I do tend to agree with Tom.
I think they don't know what they are doing with those medications and
it is un natural to alter the way we feel. I find a good shot of B12 in
the arse works wonders! :)

You mean we'd go into a full scale raging psychotic meltdown?

I also suffered postpartum depression; in fact, my experience sounds a lot
like Brooke Shields' I will be reading her book (I know reading seems to be
anathema to some people here, so I almost hesitate to mention it, :) )
Zoloft ( and some time off work so I could get some sleep...when you get
home at 4 am and have to get up with a baby at 7 am, it's hard. My MD
thought part of my problem was sleep-deprivation, but I stubbornly did not
want to use a sitter. We worked opposite shifts) was a God-send to me. It
helped control my OCD, which was causing most of my problems...obsessive
thoughts of harm coming to the baby. I certainly don't blame Brooke for
telling Tom to mind his own business! I think part of it is having babies
later. I was 30 when I had my son; it causes such a huge adjustment...if
you are in your early 20s, your life has not really settled down yet, so you
just take it in stride...
Having said all that, I was on a very low dose, so I never became
Zombie-like. I was not on it long-term. I DO question long-term use and
use in children/ teenagers. Maybe time off alone would have worked for me
(now Mat. Leave is a year in Canada; maybe that would have been
enough)...who knows? At the time, though, the Zoloft seemed like a miracle
cure for what had become truly a nightmare.

Jane, I was just wondering did you breast feed?
I have wondered if there was a link between postpartum depression and
breast feeding.
Since it would be natural to breast feed after the birth and then if you
didn't, this may mess up the balances of your body chemistry and cause
depression as if you had suffered the loss of the baby.
Has there been a poll on this yet? ;)

Good point. I attempted to, but in the end, did not. My birth experience
was NOT good...mainly because I let the MDs call all the shots! I had a
great pregnancy, then my OB/GYN decided I should be induced at term, because
the baby was so big. So I had the induction...BIG mistake! Once the
contractions came, they were constant and intense...I literally screamed for
an epidural...found out I was over-sensitive to it...when they topped my
dose up, my blood pressure crashed, so needed meds for that (I later learned
that you can end up paralyzed if they don't get the pressure back quickly
enough). I threw up; they threw some Gravol in my IV. I ran a fever; they
added some Ampicillin. I didn't dilate past 5 cms, had an emergency
C-section, my son was whisked away to the NICU for IV Ampicillin until they
could finish blood tests (about 24 hrs). The fever was caused by
dehydration, as you can't drink anything with an epidural. I attempted to
nurse, but gave up. Plus, he was a 9-lb, hungry baby and the nurses were
giving him bottles in the NICU. He was irritable in the hospital (who could
blame him?), but was a very good baby once we got home.
Lessons learned if I had ever decided to have another child (the post-partum
scared me off)...Hire a midwife early on, refuse induction (I don't think my
body was ready to give birth) and hire a La Lesche (sp) helper.
Your theory could be correct.
Jane (Sorry if I offended anyone with the graphic birth story)

Wow, we actually agree, Jane. Tom Cruise needs to stick to being an
*actor* and let the *doctors* do their job. I am not pleased with him
lately - his pompous, arrogant, self-righteous "I know the history
of Psychiatry!!!" ***** is repugnant.
Like I said - stick to the MOVIES, Mr. Cruise.

How could you like it? Most of the movie was filmed in Bayonne, NJ.
See that bridge getting blown up? It's the Bayonne bridge going over
to Staten Island, NY.
Sorry to ruin it for ya.

How do you feel about the Media going too far, just to get a good Sound or Video Bit
to get 'mass' air play on the Six O' Clock News ??? Sounds to me like that is what
Mr. Lauer had in mind.
