sorry, weetie-chops -- didn't notice that U had already replied to my
post ;-)
Even Uncle Wallys can make mistakes !!!
Is it a sulpur-crested cockatoo, couldn't tell from the photo coz my
eyesight aint that great !!
The most common phrases taught to talking birds in Oz
Polly want a cracker ?
Hello Cocky ?
Whose a pretty bird then ?
Have U heard of any of the above phrases (they may be uniquely Oz for
all I know) ;-)
Anyway, I like it when they bob their little heads back and forth and
go:
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh,
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
in that high pitched squawk ;-)
We have one roaming loose in the street behind us and it does that
just before dinnertime (about 5 in the arvo)
Luv & Best.........

(I'd like to teach her to respond in that way when asked that) ;)

Hello Cocky ?
Whose a pretty bird then ?

How about...."I can talk...can you fly?"

You know me...... I try to teach her things that nobody elses bird says.

Task completed ;-)
Umbrella cocky !!! Not sulphur-crested (realized that upon closer
inspection of photo)
It is not uncommon to see lots of cockies in the wild (U should hear
the screcching sound they make when they do it in unison)
Yeppers we Aussies have the lot !!! Crows, Magpies (do U have those
?!?), Ccokies and Butcher birds (yes Butcher l-)
No marsupials yet -- though I have seen an owl on the footpath when I
was walking in the outer east of Melbourne ;-) - didn't fly away or
anything == just stood there dumbfounded as I walked past it (although
most critters would be dumbfounded by Uncle Wally anyway)
yes siree yes indeedy do !!!
I love wildlife -- better that than screaming kids around the house
;-)
Best..........

Um.....you missed my riddle!
"I have another Aussie pet! A sweet little furry nocturnal marsupial
that awakens me many nights by barking around 4am because he thinks it's
playtime. What do I have?? ;)"

I think you may need some glasses in the near future.

Um.....you missed my riddle!

"I have another Aussie pet! A sweet little furry nocturnal marsupial

Ummmmm ?!?!? I can only think of Possums ;-) -- and Dame Edna
Everidge
(aka Barry Humphreys)
Have U ever heard of him/her/it ?!?!?
I know it aint a dingo coz they don't bark -- and they are not
marsupials
-- and dingos keep reminding me of Meryl Streep and her awful attempt
at the
Aussie lingo:
"OMG, that dingo stole my bay-bee" !!!
So Uncle Wally thinks it might be a possum - since most other
Australian marsupials are protected native species.......
eg, koalas, wombats, platypuses, echidnas, etc, etc
We have possums a plenty in our backyard - they make that
spine-chilling
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaachhhhhhhhh-chhhhhhhhhh-chhhhhhhhhhhhhhh noise (as if
they are
clearing their throat to hock a big slag)
Sent shivers up my spine the first time I heard it (thought it may
have been some big ugly beastly bird making that noise)
Anyways, sweetie, U have so many little critters, do U run a private
zoo or
something in your back yard ?!?
Best..........
Uncle Wally Magoo ;-)

They are also related to the Kangaroo as a marsupial.
They have large eyes and being nocturnal don't like bright light.
They have a membrane that stretches out from the front feet to the back
feet that acts as a parachute for gliding thru the treetops. They do
this like a flying squirrel does and are close in color to them but are
much smaller.
They make a crabbing sound when frightened or startled and also make a
barking noise when they want to play! :)
They get the name Sugar glider because they love sweet things but mine's
favorite food is cucumber and fresh corn.
Occasionally I catch moths for him.....funny to watch him scarf them
down, powdery wings and all. Crunch crunch crunch! You know how a kid
looks after eating powder sugar donuts? Picture the same only with
metalic looking powder all over his face.
Sometimes I go to the pet store and buy him grub worms. It's funny to
watch him wrestle the things......they don't last long.
Here is a good sight with lots of info and pictures!
http://sugarglider.net/
I think Uncle Wally needs to get one one!
They will sleep in your pocket all day, they love to be close to you.
:)

They're a marsupial, like opossum, but I don't think they're any more closely
related than that. They're from the Australia/New Zealand area (can't recall
which, but that general area of the globe).
They look a lot like flying squirrels.

YES! Do you have one?
I bottle fed this little guy since he was a little bitty joey!
He'll be 2 this June.
I have never seen an animal that bonded so well with the owner like this
one does.

No, I don't have one. It's a long story, but I looked up some info on them for
an in-law. (I'm the person everyone asks for animal info - he thought it was a
flying squirrel native to the US, only a marsupial kind. Uh ... only one
marsupial native to the US).
