Just got off the phone with my daughter. While she is located well away
from the area stricken by Katrina, the community is beginning to show
signs of panic. People have begun to horde food and gasoline, and are
going out to buy guns. Word is that all the game stores (gun shops) in
the southern half of Mississippi have been ordered closed to keep guns
out of people's hands. There are rumors of widespread riots in Jackson
and Baton Rouge, where there is supposedly little to no food or water,
and no gasoline, available. People are packing up what they can cram
into cars and heading toward the stricken area to "help" because they
don't think anyone is helping.
Things are bad.

Don't fret.
DW can't believe the 3rd world response to the hurricane disaster by the
feds. I think most of his distress is the realization that Bush really
is the worst thing that could have happened to the US.
DW's Rome is the political one, not physical.
Maybe time for another tour of duty. It was this time last year he was
called up.
Cheers.

I'm out in the country with a big garden, freezer full of meat, private
water source (a dug well, so we can get to the water with pails if the power
is out), a generator that can keep the freezer running, enough wood to get
through the winter and a fairly tight-knit community with several hunters
who own guns (we don't, but I may yet take the test for my FAC and change
that).
I'd rather be here than in the city. As far as the doomsday scenario that
you, dw and the pope are predicting? No, I'm not ready for that and doubt I
ever would be.
I'm predicting (and I'm no psychic, :) ) that you guys will be wrong.

Thanks, Jane. We'll rebound, I'm sure. I was just pointing out that
people outside the affected area are starting to act in a panicked
manner which is never a good thing. Someone needs to get communications
going so that panic is minimized. It doesn't seem like anyone has a
clue how to handle emergencies.

people outside the affected area are starting to act in a panicked manner
which is never a good thing. Someone needs to get communications going so
that panic is minimized. It doesn't seem like anyone has a clue how to
handle emergencies.
I hope that turns out to be the case. I'm generally an optimist, but, being
off work at the moment, I have had too much time to wallow in this disaster
and it is damn depressing!

I hope the Pope isn't right. I'll be praying for your country.

Thanks, Jane. We'll rebound, I'm sure. I was just pointing out that

which is never a good thing. Someone needs to get communications going so

Continue to be an optimist! The situation in the stricken areas is
improving quickly. The worst is over. It's good to be optimistic.
Optimistic people are much happier and healthier than pessimistic
people. There are already too many pessimists posting to this group. Of
course, I believe their pessimism is their own form of optimism, which
causes their twisted view of reality.

Yes, it is much healthier to be optomistic! I really think Zak and those
like him are hoping for an end-time scenario, because it would vindicate
everything they have been saying for years.
