Remember the Silver Bridge over the Ohio River that connected
Point Pleasant with Kanauga? It collapsed under the weight of
bumper-to-bumper rush hour traffic on Friday 15 December 1967,
killing 46. Made for a good book and a fairly good movie, too.
I wonder if any sightings of the Mothman were made within the
past few months in the University of Minnesota area? Another
book, and another movie can't be far behind. "Over the River
Mississippi", Indrid Cold was heard to say...

I hate to break the news to you, but Mothman was a third-rate
villain from Batman comics.
Oh yeah, try posting something on topic.

How's this for a topic you can get your teeth into --
"The futility of chat-group yappin' and why we spend so much time and
effort getting nowhere."
Maturbation is more productive.
At least one can enjoy it.
Which is more than I can say for all this opining, arguing, posturing, ego
defending, arrogance, racism, anger, bigotry, political horseshit, et al.
Just serves to get one's rectum tightened up.
And that makes it harder to take a nice soothing *****.
So, I suggest you get off the chat group merry go round, masturbate, and
take a good crap tonight.

The Silver Bridge connected Point Pleasant, WV with Gallipolis, OH. I
lived in Point Pleasant for a while back in the 90's (a lovely small
town). Anyway, I thought of the Mothman, too, when I heard about the
Minnesota bridge collapse. I never did see the movie or read the
book, but I heard lots about it while I was living there.

I believe you. I found an interesting reference to "Mothman"
deaths: http://www.lorencoleman.com/mothman_death_list.html.
Another interesting link about the Silver Bridge collapse:
http://www.corrosion-doctors.org/Bridges/Silver-Bridge.htm.
I found this on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silver_Bridge,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I-35W_Mississippi_River_Bridge:
"I-35W Mississippi River Bridge, built the same year the
Silver Bridge collapsed and opened a month before (1967)
failed in 2007 under similar high traffic conditions."
Also, here's a 1975 topo map, where the Silver Bridge was:
http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.com/ImageInfo.aspx?T=2&S=12&Z=17&X=501&Y=5374&W=2&qs=%7cPoint+Pleasant%7cWV%7c
We see how quickly the "news" media circus jumps all over
relatively tiny items like this. God only knows what they
are going to do when the *BIG NEWS* hits... Jesus Christ!
Anyway, so you're a bass player, eh? I used to play a lot,
back in the day. About the only thing I thump on any more
is this damn computer keyboard.

Is it possible that any accident or natural disaster would NOT be
intepreted on the nutty net to have been caused by a supernatural being or
force?
The net -- high technology's answer to the ol' nocturnal campfire story.
LOL!
Doc :))~

*snip*
Ordinarily I ignore your posts Danny ('cause they're long-winded and
fucking annoying). But as this particular question's been asked of me
by others, who I actually respect, I'll respond here.
I work only a few blocks from where the bridge collapsed. I'm a
nightsider (5pm-1am) but my daysider friends were heading out after I
arrived to work, and many I knew would be taking that very I-35 route
home.
Horror. Horror of local horrors.
To answer your question, I know of no reports of a leathery red-eyed
creature flying about and being a harbinger of impending doom. Albeit
I'm not the end all of information ... but it seems at this point I've
more information to afford you than anyone else who's participating in
this thread.
The chaos was scary as *****. We had no idea what the hell was going
on ... just a steady stream of vehicles with blaring sirens zooming by
with sirens blaring. My office window faces toward the Metrodome and
no joke, we were watching [as said vehicles screamed down Park
Avenue], eyes like Wedgwood saucers, wondering when one of those
vehicles would be hit by the lightrail system.
I should amend my comment above. It was *fucking* scary as *****. We,
at that time, had no idea what'd happened, but we knew it was big, and
it was most certainly not good.
To say many of my co-workers are lucky to be alive is an
understatement.
So Danny, do your damndest to take the high road, and not give this
tragedy your usual warped spin. Okay?
.
