I'm all for helping out the people who need it. But are you sure that
is what Bushco wants? Hell, they are killing each other over bags of
ice now, Bush wants the population to decrease, it's part of their

It's still a bit early for that.
I'm a member of a Ham Radio club, and for emergency situations we are
told that there is typically NO food/water/shelter/anything for the
first 3 days. Then the relief aid volunteers may start to show up,
depending on the situation. So, our go-kits are required to have 3 days
worth of supplies in them when/if we're called on to provide emergency
communications.
Given the situation in New Orleans, I'd say 3 days is optimistic,
because of the vast area involved. We're talking thousands of square
miles affected, not just one city. Just getting the aid TO New Orleans
is gonna be a challenge.
I'm surprised that none of the people there had any hurricane kits
ready. I know that Florida has constant reminders of what should be
done for a hurricane, and what is needed in a hurrican kit - didn't they
do that in AL/MS/LA?

As dreamwalker said, we have. The Cdn Red Cross has already sent
volunteers. We have also offered hydro crews, medical aid (some of our
emergency stockpiles, in fact), search and rescue teams, etc. They will be
deployed once the US tells us what they require.

The government doesn't get any money for disaster relief! That's the
(supposedly) not-for-profits skimming money. They are big businesses,
mostly - the only thing that makes them a not-for-profit is that they're
a corporation that does not pay dividends to stockholders (put
simplistically), otherwise, they are a corporation.
