The article is written as if the waterfall was "discovered", but the
park actually had maps with it in the 60s. So, they knew about it at
one time, then forgot all about it, and completely lost it.
"A couple years ago, Weatherbee [person credited with "discovering the
waterfall] was cleaning out a cabinet of old maps when he stumbled
across one from the 1960s marked with a note reading "Whiskeytown falls"
near Crystal Creek.
"I just decided to go looking for it. But I went in and hiked up and
never found anything," Weatherbee said. The map had been more than a
mile off."
Sorry, but this just cracked me right up - how do you lose a 400 foot
waterfall?! Ha! (Even though it's perfectly understanding, it sounds
hilarious!)
