Clark County water filings subject of discussion today
The Nye County Board of Commissioners is holding a timed agenda meeting
at 8:30 a.m. today to discuss Clark County's appropriation of
groundwater from White Pine and Lincoln counties.
The board is scheduled to discuss and possibly decide on how to proceed
in a pre-hearing conference set by the state water engineer regarding
standing protests against Las Vegas' water claims on its northern
neighboring counties. Certain applications for water withdrawal permits
filed by the Southern Nevada Water Authority have for a long time
elicited protests from Nye County and other rural Nevada counties,
according to Nye County Manager Michael Maher.
"These are applications the Las Vegas Water District has had in for
years and they're just coming back to be discussed by the water
resources board," Maher said in an interview.
The applications and the protests against them by rural counties have
become more heated in the past year due to filings for new water
appropriations in White Pine and Lincoln counties. However, no water
withdrawal applications were filed for water withdrawals in Nye County.
The counties are protesting the appropriations as a matter of
principle, Maher said. They assert that water is an inalienable part of
the county and the sole responsibility of the county commission
governing it.
The meeting convenes by teleconference at the commissioners' conference
room at 1510 E. Basin Avenue in Pahrump.

Will Las Vegas Fall?
Stuart Wilde
April 2005
The visions stopped for me in mid-January and it all went quiet. It was very
hard; I felt lost. Two months passed and then I saw one solitary vision on
its own (I used to see a hundred a day before that). The lone vision was of
Steffi Graff, the tennis player. She was kneeling in a bath with her back to
the faucets; she was praying. There was not one drop of water in the tub.
Steffi is married to Aggasi, who lives in Las Vegas. Ages ago I saw that
something happens to Las Vegas. I thought the Hoover Dam might break and
stuff up the town's electricity supply, maybe the water system runs dry as
well. Maybe that's why Steffi is in the vision in the bath praying for
water. Strange.
Las Vegas is also vulnerable to an oil crisis as it would affect the cost of
people getting there. I saw a vision of oil at $US 240 a barrel, which would
be about $10.00 a gallon at the pump in America. It sounds unlikely, but the
trend is up and any disruptions in the world's supply would cause a price
spike.
I love Las Vegas; it has always been good to me in the cash-flow department,
but I can see if the Forces of Light are trying to sort humanity out, then
LV might be headed for a downfall.
It won't affect Steffi and her husband much, as they must have money coming
out of the yin-yang, but others might get upset.
