Article from: AAP
US ambassador Robert McCallum says Kevin Rudd has promised to talk
with America before making any changes to Australia's Iraq policy.
The ambassador to Australia also said President George W. Bush had
invited the prime-minister elect to Washington.
Mr McCallum said he looked forward to meeting Mr Rudd and that climate
change and Labor's commitment to withdrawing troops from Iraq were
among topics likely to be discussed when they did.
Mr Rudd had promised to speak with the US before making any changes to
Australia's commitment in the Gulf state, he said.
"What he (Mr Rudd) has said is that he will be involved in
consultations with us and we are very much looking forward to doing
that," Mr McCallum told ABC Radio.
"The president has called him, congratulated him on his victory and
invited him to come to Washington at his earliest possible convenience
when those two schedules', which are very full for both of them, get
worked out."
