Didn't Nostradamus write his prophecies originally in French ?

At one time, I heard that Nostradamus originally wrote them in Latin, so
they could not be read by the masses, thus would not ***** off the church
as much. The Centuries were translated into French almost immediately.
I could be wrong about this, I only heard it once, on some TV show.
