While decyphering Nostradamus' poetry, between October 1993 and
October 1996, I came upon a few verses whose hidden texts spoke
of the Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, due to arrive in Paris
tomorrow.

The very first decyphered quatrain about the Palestinian leader
not only spoke of him, but also of the murder of Yitzak Rabin, of
Benjamin Netanyahu and the ensuing consequence for Palestine of
his election.

cryptic anagrams hidden therein are restored:

with the usual asterisks between words no longer used or spelled
thus: 'After the unjust Murder of the Leader of Israel, *a*
*Netanyahu* wins the Elections, *cancels* *even* the future Peace
which had won for his Palestine Yasser Arafat.'

For the gallically challenged, and in approximate modern English,
with the usual asterisks between words no longer used or spelled
thus: 'The Country of Israel is finally *recognized* in
Palestine, Land of the *Jews*; later, the so good Arafat (the one
who resists so much) shall be the Friend of this Dear Israel.'

Juxtaposing both decyphered texts, one gets the picture of this
leader of Palestinian resistance, Arafat, who later recognizes
the State of Israel, then negotiates Peace between Israel and the
Palestinians, only to be thwarted in his efforts by the murder of
the Israeli Prime Minister, the ensuing election of Benjamin
Netanyahu, and the cancellation of the Peace agreements
negotiated earlier.

CIIQ 60.Punic faith [is] broken in the East. Garonne, Indres and
Rhone--- Loire and Tagus shall change [sides]. When the hunger of the
fish has been satisfied, [The] fleet [is] splashed [with] blood, and
bodies shall float.
Line 2. The sequence is that of the major rivers of France. 'Ganges'
is improbable, although there is a town of that name not far from
Salon. The Tagus symbolizes Toledo, Spanish capital, and the Loire
stands for Blois, where the French King held court. Line 3. 'mulet,'
which commentators persist in translating as 'mule,' is the fish of
this name. Line 4. A paradox caused by punctuation.
The Turks violate a truce or break their treaty of mutual assistance
with France.
CIIQ 60. Presumably the Punic faith" refers to Islam,[Libya] is
because both were enemies of Rome. Line 2 takes us from India to the
Atlantic without telling much of the common denominator. Line 3 is
completely obscure, while line 4 appears to predict a naval disaster.
The verse probably belongs to the "New Crusades" theme.

CVIIIQ96The synagogue, childless, without fruit, Shall be
received/accounted among the infidels, faithless.
Persecuted daughter of Babylon, Sad and unhappy--- they shall clip her
wings.
Line 2. The Jews shall be persecuted along with heretics, or, the Jews
shall take refuge among non-Christians. Historically, many Jews,
during the persecutions of Ferdinand and Isabella, resettled in the
more tolerant Ottoman Empire.
Interesting because of Nostradamus's ancestry.
CVIIIQ 96. This quatrain appears to predict that in the wake of
persecution of Jews in Catholic lands, the Jews will flee to the
Moslems. This was taking place to a substantial extent at about the
time this prophecy was written, when thousands of Jews accepted the
hospitality of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent and settled in
Constantinople, Salonika and Adrianople after expulsion from Spain and
Italy. One of these Jews, Don Joseph Nassi, who arrived in
Constantinople in 1553, became a powerful figure. In 1566 (the year of
Nostradamus' and Suleiman's death), he was created Duke of Naxos and
became one of the principal advisers of Selim II.
Boswell (1941, p. 326) sees the quatrain as predicting the conversion
of Islam to Judaism. McCann (1942, p. 387) explains the quatrain with
just five words: "Leon Blum's tenure of office."
