Now, own a flying saucer for $90,000
5 Aug 2007, 0201 hrs IST,AGENCIES
WASHINGTON: Space junkies obsessed with aliens and UFO's can look
forward to owning their own flying saucers now.
Called M200G, the flying saucer, which is really a car-sized
hovercraft, costs $90,000. However, it is intended to fly no higher than
10 feet.
Bruce Calkins, spokesman of manufacturer Moller International of
Davis, CA, said the 10-foot maximum altitude is constrained by the
system's computer-it could fly much higher but doing so would require a
pilot's licence. The craft is supported by the downdraft of eight small
but powerful rotary engines, and is stabilised by a computer system. It is
capable of carrying a payload of 250 pounds. The driver uses a joystick
for steering and sets the desired altitude (detected with proximity radar)
with a lever.
Besides gasoline, the craft's rotary engines can burn a combination
of ethanol and water, giving it very low emissions.
However, it's a gas-guzzler, and will consume 40 gallons of fuel if
it travels at a top speed of about 50 mph for one hour.
Besides, the craft also emits an ear-splitting 85 decibels, but with
mufflers, this can be reduced to a more moderate 65 decibels, Calkins
said.
The firm is now planning to build six demo models during the next 12
months, and then probably about 40 during the following 12 months, and
then gear up to a production of 200 to 250 per year thereafter.
Company founder Paul Moller calls it "the ultimate off-road vehicle"
as it is able to travel over any surface. "It's not a hovercraft, although
its operation is just as easy. You can speed over rocks, swampland,
fences, or log-infested waterways with ease because you're not limited by
the surface."

http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?page=2007%5C08%5C04%5Cstory_4-8-2007_pg9_19
PLUS a freaky VIDEO of it at --

Please note that the saucer prototype is attached to a tether line hung
from a crane just in case the damned thing fails. Interesting to watch,
but basically an old technology they played with back in the 1950s -- the
Canadian AVRO project. It seems a bit unstable, and there is a funny scene
at the end where photographers are running about, getting out of its way
at it seemingly dips toward them!
If I had one, I'd land it on top of JTEM...he'd make a good 'saucer
touchdown pad.'

That invention sounds like a useless contraption to me..... I doubt it will
'fly'..!!

I actually met one of the inventors of a 1965-made propellor-driven
vertical lift saucer, and saw the remains of his rusting aircraft. It was
parked at a small ranch near Eatonville, WA. The thing operated on much
the same aerodynamic principle as this current one -- but, other than a
few low-level experimental short flights (tied to a tether rope), it never
got to the expected level of a fast, high-flying craft. Even Boeing became
interested in his invention for awhile, but apparently dropped it. Others
have fooled around with the multi-propellor lift disc craft idea over the
decades, including the Canadian government's AVRO project (1960). None
flew worth a *****, and were later abandoned as unworkable. I'd guess that
this guy has plans to get investors to foot the bill for more development,
hoping he will stabilize it and make it fly okay. I doubt it. The video
shows an unstable craft that has many problems, including heavy fuel
consumption. It's weird, though, to see a circular craft hovering and
moving about...engineers need to make an anti-gravity saucer some day and
do it right, and forget the conventional propulsion systems of today. I
think they will eventually develop one, but not in my lifetime.

You must be planning on dying quite soon them, because I figure all this
will happen in maybe 15 years or so. I’ve seen a video with all kinds of
new inventions that are real and not hoaxes. There are already all kinds of
UFO motors and anti gravity machines. Working prototypes already in the
makes. A lot of people don’t know this yet. There are just too many things
happening in this world for people to keep up with. All I can say is waiting
and you will see. All the inventions will speak for themselves!!

Yeah, okay...I'll believe it when I see it. I've been hearing about
anti-gravity breakthrough technologies for several decades, mondo. So,
forgive me, if I'm rather skeptical.
And, no, I don't *plan" on dying. Most of us don't plan it. It just
happens when it wants...and it's usually quite inconvenient.

I understand your skepticism, but I hope you live long enough to see. In 20
years when you see me fly over your home, with my brand new set of gyro
propelled angel wings, computer operated so I it works even better than a
bird, and doesn't even need fuel….don’t say, I didn’t tell you so.

I think I saw Kimmy fly over my home yesterday afternoon and he didn't
have any wings. It could've been Milka, though.
I waved, but whoever it was just flipped me the bird and then shot
straight up into the clouds and disappeared.
