One Canadian soldier dies in Afghanistan due to "Horse Play" (or bad driving) and we make a
big thing about it.
[ I Truly am sorry to the family of that soldier - but more people die on the streets of
Toronto due to unforeseen accidents 'Daily'.]
When only 8 Canadian Soldiers have died in Afghanistan (and more than half of them due to
'Friendly Fire'), it truly makes me wonder how the 'United States' soldiers feel !!!
How many of these guys wish they could 'defect' to a more 'efficiently' run Military
Organization.
Canada is one of the few countries that places Troop Welfare above no other country, and
'execute' their objectives with the "highest of precision" (with 'minimal lose of life' ).
Even better than the British and the Israelis - if you can believe that one.
[True, we took some un-necessary loses in WWI - but we never make the same mistake TWICE.]
This has been our Mantra since WWI, and "By God", we stick by it !!!
:-(]

Canadians are tough, Jane. It's the miserable government. The Canadian soldiers have such tight
rules of engagement that they're about as useful as tits on boar pig. Americans took the point
during Operation Anaconda. They had too. Canadian troops are terrified of firing a weapon. Every
engagement is examined by the white collars to determine if measured force was used. Morale of the
Canadian combat soldier sucks in Afghanistan. The peace keeping gents are quite happy. But their not
combat trained either.

I don't think so. During WWI and WWII, Canada fought as part of Great
Britain, did it not? I think it's a bit much to expect a country with
the population of New York State, and nearly the land mass of the Soviet
Union, to be expected to put forth a large military effort. (and,
please don't take this as a dig, but I've seen the changing of the guard
at Parliament, and the soldiers look pretty amateurish - timing off,
etc. I wouldn't want to send them into anything heavy duty, either).

Not. It fought as part of the *Commonwealth* (think of it as a voluntary
version of teh British Empire) as did the Aussie, New Zealanders, Indians,
Kenyans etc etc. (And a bloody big thank you to them too!) Although Canada
may have counted as a dependent then.. not sure.

Canada has alway punched and continues to punche above its weight in miltary
terms - in part because it's Navy's NATO role was very similar to the
carried out in WWII - convoy escort - so they Navy was always fairly well
equipped up to the 90's at least.

Ah, okay. I thought it was part of the Royal something-or-other. A lot
of Americans hightailed it up to Canada to join up for the service
because the US wasn't involved yet.

It's ridiculous - we learn all kinds of stuff about Europe and US

I don't blame the soldiers; it is the way they are neutered today. Yes,
Canada fought with Great Britain, and the rest of the Commonwealth, but had
a separate armed forces. Canada liberated Holland from the Nazis and the
Dutch still love us. In WWII, in fact, Canada waited a day or two after
England before declaring war (just to assert independence, methinks, :)).
After WWII, Canada had the fourth-rated army in the world...despite the
small population. Like the Aussies, we were known for being tough warriors
back then.
The army has since been decimated and neutered by our mostly Liberal
govts...beginning with Trudeau. We were able to spend our $$$ on social
programs because we knew we had the US to defend us.

There's an old joke about Canada. They had the opportunity to embrace
American technology, French cuisine and British culture, but instead
ended up with French technology, British cuisine and American culture.
(I actually heard that on some Canadian TV show, so if quoted accurately
it would be "we" rather than "they"). I'm guessing that at the time that
joke came out, it wasn't yet common knowledge that the US learned about
the aerodynamics for mach1+ from the Canadians (who had a wind tunnel
that could approach those speeds).

More like let the American Troops go "Rangi" and let the Republican Media Cover-Ups make it
sound like 'Collateral Damage' (or just one of the casualties of WAR !!!).
Canadian Militia act with 'precision' and 'expertise'. American "Buck Rogers" wannabees could
learn a lot from this approach !!!
Just A Canadian Thought.

As a 'side note' Canadian Troops have 'secured' more ground in Afghanistan than any other
Coalition Force (due to their Honesty to the 'locals').
You can 'Fake Out' the Warlords, but sooner (or later), they will "Bite The Hand That Feeds
Them !!!"
Food (or Hands) For Thought.

One Canadian soldier dies in Afghanistan due to "Horse Play" (or bad driving) and we make a

That's probably the biggest difference between Canada and the US - we
repeat our mistakes. :-(

This has been our Mantra since WWI, and "By God", we stick by it !!!
