Very nice! What kind of camera are you using for that one?

Thanks Woods!
It's a 5 year old Olympus C-2100 ... a 2 Mpixel sensor but good optics
with image stablization. And it has full manual control.
It was great when I bought it and still is, but I'm getting antsy for a
digital SLR.
Cheers!

I think it's really necessary to have full manual control to take great
photos. Ours doesn't have that, but I can't complain because it was
really just for taking snapshots, not doing photographic stuff.
It was great when I bought it and still is, but I'm getting antsy for a
digital SLR.
That's what I want to get next. I'd like to get a Canon, because we've
got several lenses for our AE-1, but that's really not the best reason
for selecting a camera.

Far be it from me to butt into any conversation as an expert in
photography. Butt................
www.photo.net is a good place to go to get caught up on what's going on
in the photo world. You can shop out of their site also
The AE-1 FD lens mounts were discontinued around 15 years ago. When
Canon went to auto focus they changed to the current EF mount.
Canon seems to be 18 -24 months ahead of the other manufacturers in
sensor technology. Cutting edge crew. Doesn't mean you can't find
other great cameras by other manufacturers.
Sony bought out Minolta and is eventually coming out with image
stabilized bodies for the old Minolta glass.

Thanks for the info - I'll have to check that out!

Arghhhhh!!!
It figures, tho.

I've always thought canon made excellent cameras, and they're fairly
robust, too.
Sony bought out Minolta and is eventually coming out with image
stabilized bodies for the old Minolta glass.
I never really looked into the Minolta cameras back when I was really into
photography. I've always had the impression that they were supposed to
produce excellent lenses, and that people got the cameras primarily
because of the lenses - is that the case? (If so, maybe we can start
buying old Minolta lenses on eBay now, before Sony comes out with a camera
that can use 'em ;-)

From what I've read Minolta are putting their "anti-shake" or image
stabilization technology into their camera bodies instead of their lenses
like Canon and Nikon are. I guess it's pretty revolutionary. I've also
read a little bit about Minolta's past top of the line bodies being very,
very good. I don't know if they've ever had a "professional" line of fast
lenses.
I'm a bumbling amateur. Anything I say may or may not contain a shred of
truth. :-)

Ack! That's my dilemma too -- I have a great Pentax 35 mm SLR but the
unit and lenses are pre-auto-focus (bought it just when the 35mm
auto-focus SLRs were coming out but I was living on my own earning
dirt-wages at the time and could only afford 3/4's of my food budget
for the camera -- a wonderful month of peanut butter sandwich's and
tomato soup as I recall).

Aren't some Pentax lenses still compatible with modern cameras?
http://www.photo.net/bboard/forum?topic_id=1901 A spectacular line of
equipment I've been told.
You can get a lovely Nikon V ED scanner, Marv, for less than $600 and still
and always shoot film. :-)
I know, "scanning sucks", but it's not as bad as it used to be with this
type of Nikon "digital camera".
I'm only buying 1 dslr and they haven't quite made it yet. I want a Canon
5D with higher dynamic range at half the price. A few more years yet I
think.
