Just was shown this by one of my kids. Looks like Bush is using his powers more
and more like a dictator every day.

What a crock. They broke the law, but the ACLU claims it's a constitutional
right?
The use of an old law isn't new, and isn't exclusive to the current
administration. It's just a prosecutor looking for all applicable laws to
maximize prosecution. The goal, no doubt, being to discourage future
illegal behavior.
No big deal, and besides Greenpeace needs to know they are not above the
law just because they believe their motives are pure. (which I don't)

Perhaps you should reread the article.

illegal behavior.

Perhaps you should reread a few American History books.

There's a difference between expecting to be given preferential treatment and
being singled out solely because you had a message that is in opposition to the
person in power. I think you should consider how much you want US leaders in
the future to stick to the letter of the law, and then with an extremely heavy
hand, only for those who are opposed to their policies.

I read it, that's the jist of the ACLU's argument, that this was civil
disobediance and therefore shouldn't be prosecuted with this particular
law.

The use of an old law isn't new, and isn't exclusive to the current
administration. It's just a prosecutor looking for all applicable laws
to maximize prosecution. The goal, no doubt, being to discourage
future illegal behavior.

You seem to be arguing for preferential treatment for greenpeace because
their message is "ecologically pure".
prosecutors use any and all statutes to prosecute. It's their job.

Not to mention the other supposed enviornmentalists who use mass destructive

Um .... that's a little different from unfurling a couple of banners with
anti-Bush messages, dontcha think? (And there are no RICO-type statutes being
used against the more violent groups. That's kind of the problem - it's only
those who criticize or disagree with Bush that are getting this treatment, not
the ones who are a serious threat to anyone - that's the reason I posted in
the first place. Although, I should have realized that most of the people
here wouldn't "get" the problem anyone would have with the skewed, selective
enforcement).

If Greenpeace did their job we would have shipped nuclear materials to
the east for the reason of the 90s economy and Clinton would be on
death row.
Greenpeace seems to pick its biasness..
Usual no objectivity from you.

As someone who considered himself to be an environmentalist since the early
70's long before it became popular and a buzzword and also one who raised
two children to adulthood to love nature and the environment I'd have to say
I'm glad to see Greenpeace get their just reward. They are the only thing I
have more contempt for than the Bush administration and free market
capitalism is Greenpeace.
I live in the land and teritory that is the birthplace of Greenpeace and its
founding father Patrick Moore who has completely divorced himself from the
organization and denounces their policies and practices today. The truth in
any given situation has never stood in the way of their policies and
practices and they are nothing but a bunch of thugs and anarchists whose
actions hurt multitudes of ordinary people while they raise obscene amounts
of money by spreading lies and distortions in their fundraising.

They are after all a corporation, and may have a media habit, but I
think they are selective, and basically impotent, can you see them
going into NK waters, or Burma, or anywhere where the heat really is.
Good scam though.
