Rove isn't off the hook, yet, but I'll bet that weasel (and Bush and
Cheney, too) made sure there was enough plausible deniability on their
parts to avoid charges.

Rove was Matt Cooper's source. He has also been questioned on four
occassions before the GJ. Fitzgerald seems to see the outing of Plame as
a very serious national security matter so I have a mild suspicion that
he may be focused on Rove (who would likely have known of Plame's NOC
status) on the original charge, in which case he would have committed
treason.
It will be interesting to see how things play out. Bush gave a brief
statement today (it was on washingtontimes.com as a video). He didn't
hang around to answer questions.
I caught Fitzgerald's news conf on CNN today. He appears to be a pretty
straight arrow and he also appears to be focused on the damage the leak
of Plame's name has had on US nation security. And this is where the
sickening irony comes in because it's an administration that won it's
second (apparent) mandate on it's pledge to protect the US. Plame was
involved in tracking unconventional weapons globally. She and everyone
and everything associated with her work is now gone.
I hope Fitzgerald returns soon to finish the job.
Cheers.

Well, of course. When they outed her, they outed everyone who'd ever
worked for the front company - that's where the damage was done.

Me, too.

George Bush Sr. once said that anyone who leaked classified info about
intelligence agents was the lowest of the low ... I forget the exact
quote but it was far more graphic than my paraphrase. Of course, Bush
Sr. has a habit of eating his own words (remember "No new taxes?").
I say get rid of Rove, DeLay, Libby, and Frist (if he's guilty). Though
I must say I'd get more gratification out of Rumsfeld being involved in
a scandal.

Rumsfeld was involved in a scandal, but he managed to dodge it (Abu
Graib, Gitmo). Apparently, Americans aren't overly concerned about the
treatment of foreigners, nor how such treatment will eventually affect
the treatment our own citizens and soldiers get in the future.
