Pakistan vows to keep, improve nukes
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- At a ceremony marking the 58th
anniversary of Pakistan's creation, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said his
country will continue its nuclear program.
Aziz said Pakistan sought to improve its missile program, but strictly as
a defensive measure.
"We bear responsibility to protect our independence," he said. "Today
Pakistan is a nuclear power and no one will be able to put the evil eye on
our country."
However, Aziz maintained Pakistan is open to developing friendly relations
with neighboring India, its longtime foe and recent nuclear adversary, the
Russian news agency Novosti reported.
He also said Pakistan would keep a vigilant stance against terrorism.
About 700 suspects were rounded up just before the anniversary
celebrations, for fear of extremist attacks.
Pakistan was founded in 1947, after splitting from India along religious
lines. Three wars have been fought between the two nations since.

Yeah, persistent reports, just recently revived, indicate Pakistan is
farming out its nuclear crop to Iran, in some form or the other. May not
be the tomatoes, just the seeds. Russia and China are playing roles, too,
of course.

Consider Pakistan and India are really 2 states of one country, their
partition is only arbitary, like Vietnam or Germany or Korea even,
their history goes back yonks, treat them as one now religious divide
exists but also Musharaff is more popular in India than most of their
own politicians!
Bill Clinton even told them, united they could accomplish anything.
Though Musharaff has had a very chequered life, and has done some
extraordinary things.

Many terrorists originate from Pakistan. Pakistan is an economically and
politically unstable nation, headed by a military dictator. He has
survived at least two close assassination attempts. Violent extremist
religious and political disturbances are common.

However, Pakistan hasn't got oil reserves and it's aiding the Bush
administration, publicly at least, in its WOT campaign. This cooperation
by Musharoff won him the lifting of a military hardware ban by Bush, and
the shipping of F-16s to Pakistan.
F-16s can carry nuke warheads.
