DALLAS, Texas (AP) - Evangelist Pat Robertson told a local 700
Club chapter that Vampire Chronicles novelist Anne Rice is "probably a
disciple of Satan and ought to be burned at the stake."
Robertson's caustic remarks were made Friday evening at Windwalker Hall
during a speech titled, "Revelation and New Orleans," in which the
controversial outspoken evangelist blamed "evil supernatural domination"
of New Orleans on occultism.
"I know such popular personalities as Anne Rice have something to do with
the demonization of America," Robertson said. "She used to live in New
Orleans and hob-knobbed around with occultists and voodoo practitioners.
Her books glamorize evil. I think she is probably a disciple of Satan and
ought to be burned at the stake."
Robertson had previously created a furor over his call for the murder of
Venezuela President Hugo Chavez. Chavez denounced him for his public
remarks and labeled Robertson a "terrorist."
"It's no coincidence, folks, that all this satanism and witchcaft has
angered God," Robertson said, "and New Orleans has long been a hotbed for
this kind of anti-God activity. It was punished for fooling around with
the Devil."
AP was unable to contact Robertson but a spokesman said his remarks were
"taken out of context."

Is this guy for real???

Robertson is batshit insane and a crook to boot.
It's the sort of thing I would not be surprised if it were true. However
I searched Google News and there is no article such as the above, so I'd
be leaning towards it being a parody.
This isn't though

Thanks for double checking on that Doc.
I already knew about FEMA providing a link to Robertson's religious
organization, btw. It was pretty prominently placed on their site.

Even out of context, it's pretty clear that he condoned burning someone
at the stake.
I'm beginning to wonder if Robertson has a serious drug/alchohol/mental
problem.

The linked site doesn't exist.
The funny part is that the story didn't seem that far out in 'right'
field to not be true.

Yes, as I discovered after I'd read Doc's post.

It's funny and downright scary at the same time.

Yup. The US has lost ground and, if the Right Wing has its way, we'll
sink into a relative Dark Ages, just like the fundie Arab world is
experiencing. Very scary to watch.
