Object: Perfect Hair Cut Duplicator
An optically-guided device to keep a flawless cut
Now, this does require that you begin with a good cut, but once you've got
it you can keep it forever.
Imagine a free-standing cone shaped unit that you place over your well shorn
head. It would use mild suction to draw your hair straight up. a computer
chip would optically scan your now straight hair and store the info.
When you feel it's time for a trim, put your head back in, turn on the
suction, select "Cut" from the menu and the device will slowly move into
your desired cut's position-cutting all the way.
As styles change, you can store other new cuts or have the whole family's
cuts stored.

Wow! I thought Harvey K-Tel was dead?
What happens if you sneeze when it's cutting? Does it come with a
sneeze sensor? Or if you select the cut and put someone elses head in
it? Could your whole family have the *exact* same haircut? What about
dogs? Can it style a dogs head? Or a cats (we have a few BTW). Can I
load programs of celebrity haircuts like Don King's? Or Jack Lord from
'Hawaii Five-O'? Spock? Eddie Munster?
I want one! Are operators standing by?? Do I have to call today before
midnight to receive my special gift???
OMG! I CAN'T FIND MY CREDIT CARD!!!!!

Gosh...Not for it's claimed capability, no, not for that.
Gosh for the use of the much nicer word, 'duplicate'. It appears that
wherever people need to use the word, they substitute, 'replicate'.
I have a feeling that the 'Star Trek' television entertainment has
entered our speech.
All write out 50 million times. "I must always say, 'Duplicate'...not
'Replicate'.
Oh yes...would someone enlighten me as to exactly why it has become
normal to say 're-locate' instead of the easier, 'move'?

I detect a nuance of difference between the two terms, but can exactly put a
finger on it. But consider this; re-locate is mostly used when talking about
moving a person or a business. I can re-locate myself. A company can
re-locate. The term is seldom used on an inanimate object. It doesn't
sound right to re-locate a cup or a book or even a car.
The difference might have to do with whether something is moving itself or
the movement is applied to another thing. This may not be right, but it's
the best I can come up with.

Sorry, I meant to say I *can't* exactly put a finger on it.

Yep Mondo, I've never heard (even an American) re-locate a cup of tea,
well, not yet anyway!
It's just that I like, 'move'. It's short, succinct and not cumbersome
in anyway. Re-locate sounds to be one of those words that appear and
are adopted in an attempt to impress.
It has failed!
Thanks M.

That's funny, when you use the term re-locate in that way, it seems to imply
that the cup was lost and you then found it rather than that you moved it.
Even so, 'find' is still an easier word to use.

It does sound like that. That's why I prefer 'move' to 're-locate'.
Anyway, move is less pompous. After all, someone is only...well, only
moving from one place/position to another.
It's all the fault of those damned Yankee fellows. Thank God (or
whoever) the crowd from alt. US politics has just about gone.
Was that you, Wally, who invited that lot in here by cross-posting?
Bad boy!
