Object: Poll: Your spiritual/religious background
Perhaps there is a strong correlation between your upbringing or
current spiritual/religious background.
1. What was your upbringing? Christian? Muslim? Were you raised in a
middle-class, lower-class, or upper-class home?
2. What is your current religious or spiritual background?
3. Do you believe that Nostradamus was accurate in at least some of his
prophecies and consider him a true prophet?
4. Do you believe that events have escalated and we are heading toward
a major catastrophe, rapture, world war, or other series of events
which will define the times we're living in?
5. Do you think there is at least a remote possibility that something
may occur at the end of the Mayan calendar, in December of 2012?
Thanks for participating.

Mondo,

While you bring light to a very popular misconception, millions of Maya
in southern Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras would probably disagree
vehemently with you!

There are people with some Mayan ancestry
in Central and South America today.
But as a civilization, the Mayans are extinct.

Bud,
I definitely beg to differ on several counts.
There certainly aren't a hell of a lot of people with "some Maya
ancestry" in South America...a few immigrants, I imagine, but if we're
going to look at it that way, there are people with "some Maya
ancestry" everywhere.
There are millions of people..MILLIONS...in Central America who have
pure Maya blood.
By your definition of civilization it would seem that Greeks, Romans,
and Egyptians are all extinct, too. If all these groups are extinct,
than where does that leave their descendents?

Coping Marv. This is a relaxtion for me, and your witty comment was a
welcome break!
She's out of hospital, living here, and we are trying to re-gain the
child with my 'adopting' it as being the only solution really.
The trouble is...I don't really like the idea a lot, but it's better
than the certain alternative!
So...Ummm, not happy, but doing that which has to be done. This
Father/daughter thing is strange. One side protective, the other side
guiding. The guiding part failed..that just leaves the protection.
It's a very powerful emotion that is in constant conflict with the
difference between a teenager's moral standards and my own.
The odd witty remark like your Mayan calander one, goes a long way to
relieving pressure. Thanks....;)

Yes. Mayan's will no longer know what day it is.

Now THAT was a great answer. :)

Christian (my mother is a recovering Catholic), middle class.

2. What is your current religious or spiritual background?

Christian, with gnostic/buddhist overtones (in that they seem to
describe very well my understanding of what Jesus actually taught).

3. Do you believe that Nostradamus was accurate in at least some of his
prophecies and consider him a true prophet?

Yes, no.

4. Do you believe that events have escalated and we are heading toward
a major catastrophe, rapture, world war, or other series of events

Yes.

"remote possibility" "may"? sure, I can accept that. ^_^

No such thing as "Christian with gnostic/Buddhist
overtones".

The "end timers" believe in a physical kingdom here on earth
and think that death being conquered is talking about our
physical death. I have a question then, using the two verses
that they always quote and knowing that the Bible doesn't
contradict itself...
"There will not be an infant, nor an old man that has not
filled his days. For the child will die a hundred years old;
but the sinner who is a hundred years old will be despised."
- Isaiah 65:20
"And God will wipe away all tears from their eyes. And there
will be no more death, nor mourning, nor crying out, nor will
there be any more pain; for the first things passed away."
- Revelation 21:4
So which is it? Will the child die 100 years old? Or will
there be no more death? One or the other is true, but both
can't be true. So either they are taking symbolism literally
and misunderstanding the verses, or the Bible contradicts
itself. I know which one I believe. :)

Sure there is. Gnosticism was the original Christianity before men
started to make it into an institution, and modern Buddhism is very
close to what Jesus actually taught. I used modern terms that people
would understand to describe what has been pulled out of modern
Christendom as it stands today.

No, it wasn't and Gnosticism is refuted in the NT itself.
