POP STAR BRITNEY SPEARS FOUND DEAD, MUTILATED
LOS ANGELES -- (Reuters) -- Pop star diva Britney Spears was found dead
and mutilated in her West Hollywood home late Sunday evening.
Police and emergency medical personnel responded to a 911 call from
Spears' mother at 11:04 pm. She reported that her daughter was
unconscious, lying on the floor of an upstairs bathroom.
West Hollywood police told Reuters Spears was found naked lying in a "pool
of blood" on the bathroom floor. They said it appeared she had cut off her
ears and half her nose, lacerated her breasts, sliced off her left hand's
little finger and her right foot's big toe, and slit both her wrists.
A bloody straight-edged razor blade and kitchen butcher knife were found
near the body. Her amputated ears and nose were found outside the bathroom
entrance, in a hallway. Her toe and finger were found in the toilet.
Police believe she had thrown the body parts around. It is believed she
was alone in her house at the time of the apparent suicide.
Medical personnel attempted to revive Spears, but she was pronounced dead
at the scene at 11:42 pm PDT.
"We believe Ms. Spears committed suicide in what appears to be a furious
self-mutilation," Rory Ghanit, a detective, told Reuters. "But, we will
need further investigation to determine the cause of her death. No foul
play is suspected at this time."
Apparently, using lipstick Spears had scrawled a message on a bathroom
mirror that read, "Oops! I won't be doing it again!," police said. They
said she had crudely drawn the face of Walt Disney's cartoon character
Mickey Mouse on the mirror. Spears had been a Mouseketeer in her
childhood.
Spears was reportedly severely depressed after shaving off all her hair
several weeks ago. Afterwards, she attacked a friend's car with an
umbrella. She had checked into a rehab facility allegedly to receive
psychiatric care, but was reported missing early Sunday evening.
