The rest of Europe is caught up between impossible choices,
Causing the final breakdown of the EU,

To help the Liberals, as do most nations in the East.

Here's the all-too-possible scenario that could bring us to that point.
Ukraine breaks into a totally self-destructive civil war
(and Ukraine already has some violent precedents suggesting this)
The pro-Western side looks like it has a chance of winning...
When suddenly the Russians send in their troops to support their
faction.
The rest of Europe is caught up between impossible choices,
Causing the final breakdown of the EU,
Since no common policy can be reached,
Even less so it could be over Iraq.
England, the Netherlands, and Italy favor sending in troops
To help the Liberals, as do most nations in the East.
The French of course sit fully and securely on the fence.
Some nations dispatch troops, others send volunteers,
Putin threatens the use of his advanced nuclear weapons
Against nations supporting the Ukrainian liberals.
Europeans appeal to the US to send in forces,
As they did in Yugoslavia.
Guess what the reply will be this time???
At most a few token troops, maybe not even that.
If Europeans still think they are the world's greatest diplomats,
Let them prove it.

I guess we all know things probably won't go this far.
Europeans are such practiced hypocrites and liars
That they'll settle for a few token moves by the Russians
Rather than actually go to war to defend democracy.
But maybe I'm being too generous,
Maybe Europeans will yet have another war on their hands.
After all, they've had so much past experience.

No, it doesn't come *exclusively* from the Ukraine (but that may be
part of the larger picture, including the Caucuses & Southern Russia)
It will begin in the Middle East, in Iraq, after a major event in
Basrah.......after which a period of civil war in Iraq & the region of
the former Soviet Union spreads & eventually engulfs all countries in
the region, including Israel)

That made me think of a comment in the textbook Western Civilizations,
about the European period 1870-1914. The authors state that European states,
trying to build empires, formed alliances betwen nations, in order to create
international stability. Instead, this just increased the tensions, and led
to "general world conflict."
