I suspect that the North Koreans are much like the many South Koreans
that I know or have known. They appear to be careful to Weigh
Consequences, and any threats that may have been levelled at America
from the North, I believe to be pure bluff.

These leaders want to appear Strong,, strong before their hungry, even
starving, citizens. But they are Rational I feel sure. Those big
missiles that they like to parade (on trucks with painted white wall
tires) much like the Soviets, are for Show == nothing more.

I don't speak for the Defense Department, of course, and am glad I don't
have their responsibilities.

We had a Russian defector, way back in the last millennium, who on an
official visit to New York suddenly ( and secretly) sought asylum. I
believe he worked for the KGB!

The CIA sat in on the secret asylum request :: and it was agreed ==
Asylum would be granted == but First you Must Work for Us!!

The poor Russian had to return to the Soviet Union and assume the role
of a Double Agent for a number of years = feeding much valuable
information to his "handler" in the CIA.

When he finally came out of the Closet so to speak,, he related that the
Soviet Union never had the slightest intention to wage a nuclear war
with America. I suspect, but can't prove, that the Govm't of N. Korea
has the same stance.

In fact, during the Cuban missile crisis of 1962, when the Soviets were
threatened by President Kennedy == they backed down!! and withdrew
their missiles from "Cuber" in large shipping containers in plain view
on the decks of their cargo ships just as Kennedy Demanded. So that our
Navy Destroyers could cruise close enough to detect low level
Radioactivity emanating from the containers!

A recent development from Mr Rumsfeld's personal War Department is the
release of information that America might develop small "battlefield
Nuclear Weapons"!! That is, if I read it right. How utterly Crazy!! And
dangerous.

With all due respect, I think that we are in the beginnings of World War III
and the rogue states fear attack by Washington and might try a pre-emptive
strike against the U.S. Certainly they must have learned something from
watching Iraq allowing weapons inspectors destroy its missiles in the weeks
preceding Operation Iraqi Freedom. They would rather negotiate from a
position of strength, even if it means setting off an EMP weapon over North
America and shutting down our entire economomy. And on the same token,
Mexico is DEMANDING that the U.S. turn over the Southwest to Mexico and its
illegal aliens. Only a nation in a drug-induced stupor would sit back and
allow scum like Grey Davis and the Arizona Gang of Four (McCaine, Grijalva,
Napolitano, and Kolbe) hand over our nation to a Third World nation on a
silver platter.
